DUBLIN SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE
MINUTES OF: JUNE 12, 2003
Roll Call
Committee Members Present: Bielke, Gifford, McHugh, Silvas, and Commissioner Burr Cain
Oral Communications - None
Approval of Minutes – It was moved by Mary Lou Bielke and seconded by Barbara Gifford to
approve the minutes of the May 8 meeting as corrected. The corrections were made under Old
Business, in the last sentence of the last paragraph, insert “Real Care” at the end of the sentence.
Under Other Business, in the second to the last sentence change to “Commission Meeting”
instead of Commissioner Meeting. The beginning of the last sentence of the last paragraph,
insert:“The maquettes”.

Old Business
Senior Center Art Project
Staff presented the final selection of the Senior Center Art Project as recommended by the Senior
Center Art Selection Committee. The maquette of the selected bronze sculpture was displayed at
the meeting. In response to an inquiry, Staff explained that a plaque will be placed under the
sculpture to include the title of the sculpture, the date, and the name of the artist. The placement
of the sculpture was not determined.
After receiving information from staff, asking questions, and discussing the Senior Center Art
Project, it was motioned by Barbara Gifford and second by Paul Silvas to accept and recommend
the bronze sculpture to the Parks and Community Services Commission and City Council.
However, the placement of the 8’ X 8’ bronze sculpture was the primary topic of discussion and
concern. It was recommended by the Dublin Senior Center Advisory Committee that Staff meet
with the architect to determine the alternative location for the sculpture that will not impede on
the general use of the area as recommended by the Advisory Committee. It was also desirable to
be presented with a plot plan.
New Business – None
Other Business
Staff announced that the results of Step Out for Senior Centers on Saturday, May 17. Over 45
walkers participated in the one-mile walk led by Mayor Janet Lockhart around the Senior Center
neighborhood. Over 20 volunteers assisted with the day’s event. Aside from the Dublin
Historical Preservation Society and the Dublin Sister City Associates, volunteers from the
Alameda County Fire Department, the Dublin Senior Center, and Dublin High School helped
with the preparation, the walk, the breakfast and the clean up. Safeway Stores donated $75
toward the breakfast. The Dublin Senior Center Foundation also provided funds to purchase
breakfast items. Staff thanked all five members of the Dublin Senior Center Advisory
Committee for being present and helping out.
The Garage Sale on Saturday, June 7 raised over $680. Staff thanked the many volunteers and
donors who helped make this year a success.
Rich Guarienti announced that the Trail Trekkers has a website to showcase photos of their
outings.
Barbara Gifford stated that she would attend the Parks and Community Services Commission
Meeting on Monday, June 16.
