HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-28-2015 Approved YAC MinutesCITY OF DUBLIN YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES OF Wednesday, January28, 2015 CALL TO ORDER The January 28, 2015 meeting of the Youth Advisory Committee was called to order at 7:00 PM at the Dublin Senior Center by Chairperson Jessie Sher. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chairperson Sher. ROLL CALL Committee Members (CM) Present: Neil Bedi, Nicki Butler, Rebecca DeGuzman, Jessie Sher, Ryan McCorriston, Loic Alini, Parin Patel, Meghan Butler, Ivan Fong, Sophia Bafaiz, Ianna Fong, Alexandra Padnos Committee Members Absent: Nicole Chen, Kush Rastogi, Smruthi Balajee, Shivi Bhatnagar Liaison Absent: Alicia Tran, Parks and Community Services Commission Liaison Staff Present: Frank Luna, Officer Christina Blaylock- Dublin Police ORAL COMMUNICATIONS – None MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING- November 19, 2014 ON A MOTION BY CM BEDI, AND SECONDED BY CM PATEL AND BY A VOTE OF 9-0-3, THE YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE VOTED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF NOVEMBER 19, 2014 AS PRESENTED. CMS PADNOS, BAFAIZ AND IVAN FONG ABSTAINED DUE TO THEIR ABSENCE AT THE NOVEMBER 19, 2014 MEETING. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS - None UNFINISHED BUSINESS – None NEW BUSINESS Live Healthy Dublin- “ACTIV-8 Challenge” Staff provided an overview of the Live Healthy Dublin “ACTIV-8 Challenge” to Youth Advisory Committee Members. The “ACTIV-8 Challenge” begins March 15 and ends May 9. The cost is $10 per person which includes a t-shirt and unlimited access to the Live Healthy Dublin online resource center. Staff Member Luna encouraged Youth Advisory Committee Members to participate as well as having Youth Advisory Committee Members tell friends and family members to register. The program encourages people to reach their ideal fitness level and to pursue healthier lifestyles. Tri-Valley Teen and Career Job Fair Staff provided information on the Tri-Valley Teen and Career Job Fair which will be held at the Pleasanton Senior Center on March 7 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The event will feature res ume workshops, mock interviews and various local employers looking to hire teens during the summer months as well as throughout the year. Staff Member Luna passed out a sign-up sheet for Youth Advisory Committee Members to volunteer the day of the event. St. Patrick’s Day Festival Youth Advisory Committee Booth Staff provided information to Committee Members regarding the operation of a Youth Advisory Committee booth at Dublin’s St. Patrick’s Festival. Each year the Youth Advisory Committee Members have operated an information booth about the Youth Advisory Committee at Dublin’s St. Patrick’s Day Festival. The festival will take place March 14 and 15 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day. As well as having information available regarding the Youth Advisory Committee, Members will have a “spinning wheel” activity. Advisory Committee Members collect a donation from event participants who chose to spin the wheel for various prizes. Proceeds from the “spinning wheel” activity will benefit the Youth Fee Assistance Program. Staff Member Luna passed out a sign-up sheet for Youth Advisory Committee Members to volunteer the weekend of the festival. OTHER BUSINESS – Staff informed Committee Members of the up-coming events which staff is requesting volunteers to assist the day of the event. The events include Dublin’s “Eggstravaganza” egg hunt, on April 4 and the Youth Benefit Concert on April 12. Staff will provide volunteer sign-up sheets at the next regular schedule Youth Advisory Committee meeting. ADJOURNMENT Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:25 PM by Chairperson Sher.
