HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-27-2014 Approved YAC MinutesCITY OF DUBLIN YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES OF Wednesday, August 27, 2014 CALL TO ORDER The August 27, 2014 meeting of the Youth Advisory Committee was called to order at 7:00 PM, at the Dublin Senior Center by Chairperson Jessie Sher. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chairperson Jessie Sher. ROLL CALL Committee Members (CM) Present: Neil Bedi, Nicki Butler, Parin Patel, Sophia Bafaiz, Kush Rastogi, Ivan Fong, Smruthi Balajee, Shivi Bhatnagar, Nicole Chen, Ryan McCorriston, Jessie Sher, Rebecca DeGuzman, Ianna Fong Committee Members Absent: Alexandra Padnos, Meghan Butler, Loic Alini Liaison Present: Alicia Tran, Parks and Community Services Commission Liaison Staff Present: Henry Siu, Frank Luna, and Dublin Police Officer Jeff Mecchi ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Mary Hughes-Ayers from the Dublin Library provided information to Youth Advisory Committee Members on teen volunteer opportunities at the Dublin Library. The Dublin Library staff is soliciting teen volunteers for their homework center, lego club, and book explorers club. Interested teens were asked to contact the Dublin Library for more information. MINUTES OF THE REGUALAR MEETING- July 23, 2014 ON A MOTION BY CM RASTOGI, AND SECONDED BY CM BEDI AND BY A VOTE OF 8-0-5, THE YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE VOTED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF JULY 23, 2014 AS PRESENTED. CM’S SHER, IANA FONG, CHEN, MCCORRISTON, DEGUZMAN ABSTAINED DUE TO THEIR ABSENCE AT THE JULY 23, 2014 MEETING. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS – None UNFINISHED BUSINESS – None NEW BUSINESS Review of Roberts Rules of Order and Brown Act City Clerk Caroline Soto provided a review of Roberts Rules of Order and the Brown Act to the Youth Advisory Committee Members. City Clerk Soto provided a handout with i nformation regarding procedures of Roberts Rules of Order and the purpose of the Brown Act. City Clerk Soto stated to the Youth Advisory Committee Members that Roberts Rule of Order and The Brown Act help City’s City Council, Commission and Committee meetings run smoothly. 2014-2015 Youth Mini Grant Program Timeline and Work plan Youth Advisory Committee Members recommend that the Youth Mini Grant application deadline be earlier this year. Last year, the application deadline was the end of November; Committee Members are recommending that the deadline be move to the third week of October with grants awarded by end of November. Youth Advisory Committee Members believe having an earlier application deadline will allow grant award winners to spend funds within the current school year. The following is the Youth Mini Grant timeline for 2014 -2015:  September 12, 2014- Applications available on City of Dublin Website  October 20, 2014- Applications due  October 22, 2014- Review applications at the monthly scheduled Youth Advisory Committee. meeting.  November 26, 2014- Applicant presentations at the monthly scheduled Youth Advisory Committee meeting. OTHER BUSINESS Staff Member Siu asked if any Youth Advisory Committee Members can volunteer at the City’s “Splatter” Event on September 20th. Youth Advisory Committee Members were asked to contact Henry Siu if they are available to volunteer. ADJOURNMENT Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:42 PM by Chairperson Sher.
