HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-16-2011 Approved YAC Minutes CITY OF DUBLIN YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES OF NOVEMBER 16, 2011 CALL TO ORDER The November 16, 2011 special meeting of the Youth Advisory Committee was called to order at 7:06 p.m. by Chairperson Vasquez. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chairperson Vasquez. ROLL CALL Committee Members (CM) Present: Rebecca DeGuzman, Cassidy Hearne, Jeanina Ng, Gabrielle Basile, Grace Li, Visesha Kakarla, Akshay Aitha, Vivian Sung, Marcos Castro, Gabriela Vasquez, Gabrielle Basile, Shilpa Stanley, Vinootna Kakarla, Dilpreet Anand. Committee Members Absent: Kush Rastogi, Sophia Bafaiz, Brianna Barnes Liaison Present: Jasmine Bafaiz, Parks and Community Services Commission Liaison Staff Present: Angela Gamez, Frank Luna, Henry Siu, Officer Ranvir Sanghera Adult Member Present: Ashley Wolfe ORAL COMMUNICATIONS- None MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING – October 26, 2011 ON A MOTION BY CM SUNG SECONDED BY CM CASTRO AND BY A UNIANIMOUS VOTE OF 13-0-0, THE COMMITTEE VOTED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF OCTOBER 26, 2011 AS PRESENTED. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS – None UNFINISHED BUSINESS – None NEW BUSINESS Youth Fee Assistance Fundraising, Teen Special Events, and Texting and Driving Educational Campaign Subcommittee Reports CM Vasquez provided a report for the Texting and Driving Educational Campaign Subcommittee. CM Vasquez stated that the Texting and Driving Public Service Announcement (PSA) was not allowed to be shown at Dublin High because the PSA was an announcement that was produced by an organization in New Zealand. Staff at the high school stated that the Youth Advisory Committee needed written permission from the organization before being shown to students. CM Vasquez will contact the organization to obtain written permission. If permission isn’t granted, CM Vasquez recommended that the subcommittee look into creating and producing a PSA. CM Castro lead member of the Youth Fee Assistance Fundraising Subcommittee reported that the subcommittee will meet by the end to November. Staff Member Gamez reported that the Battle of the Bands event scheduled for November 18th was postponed due to lack of committed bands. Staff plans to reschedule this event in January or February of 2012. OTHER BUSINESS Officer Sanghera, Dublin Police Services, introduced Officer Molleson to Committee Members. Officer Molleson is the new Youth Services Police Officer assigned to Dublin schools. Staff Member Gamez informed Committee Members that her job responsibilities have changed. She will no longer coordinate teen programs but will oversee and manage all contracted classes for the Parks and Community Services Department. Staff Member Henry Siu, Recreation Coordinator will now assist Supervisor Luna with supporting the Youth Advisory Committee. Staff Member Siu has experience working the Youth Advisory Committee, he previously supported the Committee from 2001-2004. Staff Member Luna asked if Committee Members would be present the 4th week of December to hold regularly scheduled Youth Advisory Committee meeting. Many members stated that they would not be available due to the holiday break. Committee Members stated that they still would like to meet in December and recommended that December 7th would be best date for all members to be present. Staff Member Luna will cancel the regular meeting scheduled for December 28th and reschedule a special meeting for December 7th. ADJOURNMENT Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:44 p.m. by Chairperson Vasquez.
