EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City Council will recognize the winners of the 2023 Dublin Pride Week Photography, Poster,
and Essay Contests.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Recognize the contest winners.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Funding for Dublin Pride Week activities is included in the Fiscal Year 2022-23 Operating Budget.
DESCRIPTION:
The 2023 Dublin Pride Week Celebration took place from Saturday, April 22 to Saturday, April 29,
2023. The theme for Pride Week was "Dublin: Stronger Together."
Several events took place during the weeklong celebration including the "Nature in Our Backyard"
Photography Contest and the Dublin Pride Poster and Essay Contests coordinated by the General
Federation of Women's Club Dublin/San Ramon chapter (GFWC).
Nature in Our Backyard Photography Contest
The 5th annual photo contest was open to photographers who snapped pictures in Dublin over the
last 12 months. The submission period ran February 27 through April 3, 2023, with a total of 232
submissions received. A panel of judges selected the top 10 photographs, which were then posted
to the City's website from April 17 to April 27, 2023, for public vote. The top four photographs
based on the public voting results are awarded gift cards and certificates of recognition from the
City. The grand prize winner will receive a $200 gift card, first place winner will receive a $100 gift
card, second place winner will receive a $50 gift card, and third place winner will receive a $25 gift

card. Mike's Camera of Dublin sponsored the 2023 event and donated large metal prints that will
be provided to the contest winners. Additionally, framed photographs will be displayed in the
Civic Center lobby.

Dublin Pride Week Poster and Essay Contests
Students in grades K-12 from all public and private schools located in the City of Dublin were
invited to participate in this year's contest. The GFWC managed the implementation of the two
contests including supplying materials, judging, and distributing certificates of participation.
Each of the contest participants will receive a Certificate of Merit. Grand prize winners will receive
a $100 gift card, first place winners will receive a $25 gift card, and second place winners will
receive a $15 gift card. Lastly, a "Classroom Award" of $200 is presented to the class teacher of the
Grand Prize winners of both the poster and essay contests. This gift can be spent at the discretion
of the teacher and is intended to assist with classroom activities and supply costs.
