CALL TO ORDER AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE 2. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS 2.1 Public Comment At this time, the public is permitted to address the Youth Advisory Committee on non- agendized items. Please step to the podium and clearly state your name for the record. COMMENTS SHOULD NOT EXCEED THREE (3) MINUTES. In accordance with State Law, no action or discussion may take place on any item not appearing on the posted agenda. The Committee may respond to statements made or questions asked, or may request Staff to report back at a future meeting concerning the matter. Any member of the public may contact the Recording Secretary’s Office related to the proper procedure to place an item on a future Youth Advisory Committee agenda. The exceptions under which the Committee MAY discuss and/or take action on items not appearing on the agenda are contained in Government Code Section 54954.2(b)(1)(2)(3). 3. CONSENT CALENDAR Consent Calendar items are typically non-controversial in nature and are considered for approval by the Youth Advisory Committee with one single action. Members of the audience, Staff or the Youth Advisory Committee who would like an item removed from the Consent Calendar for purposes of public input may request the Chair to remove the item. 3.1 Approval of the March 23, 2022 Youth Advisory Committee Regular Meeting Minutes The Committee will consider approval of the minutes of the March 23, 2022 Youth Advisory Committee Regular Meeting. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Receive the report. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. DESCRIPTION: The Ad Hoc Committee will discuss objectives and present an update on progress. The Ad Hoc Committee duties are listed under the Youth Advisory Committee 2021-22 Work Plan, Goal #4. The Ad-Hoc Committee has completed or will complete the following: o Objective 4.1 –Secured location, date, and time for the event by March 1, 2022. o Objective 4.2 –Developed rules, guidelines, scoring, judges, awards, and timeline for event day by March 10, 2022. o Objective 4.3 –Developed marketing plan including preparation of a flyer and registration form by March 15, 2022. o Objective 4.4 –Began advertising to Dublin High School, Dublin Middle Schools, Quarry Lane School, Valley Christian Schools, and Dublin-based youth organizations, and began accepting applications on March 23, 2022. o Objective 4.5 –Opened registration beginning March 23 through May 9, 2022. o Objective 4.6 –Will review activity roster and send pertinent event details to participants via email by May 10, 2022. o Objective 4.7 –Will hold the event on a weekday evening or Saturday in early to mid-May and 8 Page 2 of 2 ask attendees for feedback at conclusion of the event. o Objective 4.8 – Review and provide feedback about the event at the May 25, 2022 Regular Meeting. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Discuss event, note successes, and make recommendations on areas to improve for future events. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. DESCRIPTION: The 2022 Dublin Benefit Concert was hosted by the Youth Advisory Committee and the Senior Center Advisory Committee on April 7, 2022 at the first Farmers’ Market of the 2022 season at the Emerald Glen Park Amphitheater. A total of 12 youths,seniors,and groups performed. Performers included members of the Dublin High School orchestra, solo violin, cello and pipa players, vocalists singing popular songs with background dancers, a senior comedian, and other acts. There were approximately 100 people in attendance, exceeding past years attendance. The increased attendance was likely due to the move from a Sunday morning to a Thursday evening at the Farmers’ Market with a built-in crowd. The event raised $1,700 in sponsorships from groups including BrightStar Care Homecare & Medical Staffing, Cogir of Fremont Senior Living, Creating New Hope Senior Living Advisors, Fulcrum Development, and The Vineyards Healthcare Center, exceeding the $1,000 sponsorship goal. Sponsors of $500 or more had booths at the event. Proceeds were split equally between the Youth and Senior Fee Assistance programs. 10 Page 2 of 2 The 2022 Dublin Benefit Concert Ad Hoc Committee, consisting of three Youth Advisory Committee Members and two Senior Center Advisory Committee Members,planned the event. This included preparing the program, soliciting sponsors and performers, and advertising the event at Dublin high and middle schools, through social media, at the St. Patrick’s Day Festival information booth, in the Dublin Library display case, on The Wave digital boards, and on the Senior Center marquee. An ensemble of five first violins, four second violins, and two cellos will perform “Fire Dance” by Soon Hee Newbold and the Second Movement of John Rutter’s Suite for Strings, “I have a bonnet trimmed with blue.” 7 minutes Erin Tsui, Violin. Performing Violin Solo Sonata No. 2 in A minor, allegro by Bach Ms. Tsui is a violinist with the Dublin High School Orchestra. 3 minutes Leyi Lu, Pipa. Performing Pipa Solo, “Give Me a Rose” Ms. Lu has played the Chinese instrument Pipa for 10 years and has passed all levels of the Standard Grade Examination. She has won three international competitions, has been participating in music symphonies for nine years, and is currently the concert mistress of the California Youth Chinese Symphony (CYCS) and CYCS Ambassadors. 2 minutes Sara Dolley Thomas, Comedian Ms. Thomas was a Screen Actors Guild Film member and performer, radio performer, and stage performer in New York City, New York in the 1950s and 1960s. She will be performing the stand-up version of a monologue, “I’m Past My Prime,” created by playwright L’I Abner, performed in summer stock. She may also dance and sing...you never know. 7 minutes Ryan Lee, Cello. Performing Cello Solo, Cello Suite 3 BWV 1009, Prelude and Guigue by Bach. Mr. Lee, age 13, was born into a non-musical family. He was inspired to learn to play the cello after hearing Bach’s cello suites when he was nine years old. He now studies cello with Brady Anderson in Pleasanton, and is a member of the Dublin High School Orchestra. Ryan won first prize in the American Protege International competition of Romantic Music, the Korean-American Music Supporters’ Association Competition (KAMSA), the San Francisco International Innovative Music Competition (SFIIMC), The Northern California Young Talents Music Competition, the Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC) VOCE Alameda County section competition, and has received other prestigious awards. Ryan loves performing, reading sheet music online, doing math, and coding. 7 minutes Isabella Giacomini, Vocals Miss Giacomini will be performing “Speechless,” originally sung by Naomi Scott in the movie “Aladdin.” 3 minutes, 30 seconds Eugen Jia, Piano. Performing Sonata in C minor, Op. 13 “Pathetique,” Rondo: Allegro by L. Van Beethoven Mr. Jia started playing piano at seven years of age. He now plays solo and with the Fallon Middle School Band. 5 minutes, 20 seconds — Intermission and Announcements by MC, Logan Lin — Please consider using this time to donate to the Dublin Fee Assistance Program. 5 minutes WeDance, Senior Chinese Folk Dance Team “WeDance” is a year-round Chinese folk dance team made up of seniors and retired Dublin residents. The group will perform a Chinese handkerchief dance, “New Year’s Greeting.” 4 minutes 30 seconds Taylon, Vocals Taylon has performed at previous Dublin Benefit Concerts, singing songs by John Mellencamp and ABBA. Taylon has been singing and performing in public since elementary school, at outdoor venues including Pier 39 in San Francisco, Siam Paragon in Bangkok, and New York City. She will perform Elton John and Dua Lipa’s “Cold Heart,” accompanied by back-up dancers. 4 minutes Maahi Shah and Tanishka Pannala, Indian Classical Dance. Maahi and Tanishka will perform Indian classical dance to the song “Shape of You,” raga music version. 3 minutes Arham Shah, Taekwondo Arham will showcase his Taekwondo martial arts skills, including different patterns and moves, accompanied by background instrumental music and performers. 2 minutes 30 seconds Together with Music, Rock Band “Together with Music” is made of up Dublin High School students: Logan (seven years playing guitar), Michael (eight years playing piano), Charlie R. (four years of singing), and Charlie P. (six years playing drums). STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Receive the presentations. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The Fiscal Year 2021-22 City of Dublin Youth Mini Grant Program is supported by the General Fund in the amount of $2,500. DESCRIPTION: The Youth Advisory Committee established the Mini Grant Program in Fiscal Year 2012-13 to support youth organizations that offer programs for middle and high school students other than those offered by the Parks and Community Services Department.Each year, Dublin-based youth organizations and clubs have an opportunity to apply for grant funding to assist them in offering activities to the community including performing arts, sports, multicultural awareness, health awareness, or other activities that support projects or programs benefiting Dublin youth. Funding is recommended annually by the Committee and awarded by the City Council to organizations and clubs that best meet the needs of Dublin youth. 15 Page 2 of 2 On January 11, 2022, the City Council approved funding for the following groups: 1. Dublin High School Chess Club 2. Gardeners of the Galaxy 3. Helping Hands for All 4. Teens Unite for Education 5. Youth Coding Workshops (YCW) As projects near completion, grant recipients will provide the Committee with a brief three-to- five-minute report on how the funds were used and the project impacts.
