STAFF RECOMMENDATION:Receive the presentation and provide direction to Staff. FINANCIAL IMPACT:Sufficient funding exists in the Fiscal Year 2021-22 Budget for all activities proposed in this report, apart from the gala option. Should the City Council wish to pursue a gala, Staff would prepare a budget change, if necessary, for inclusion in the mid-year financial review. DESCRIPTION:Dublin’s 40th AnniversaryThe City of Dublin will mark its 40th year of incorporation on February 1, 2022, which is traditionally known as the “Ruby” Anniversary. Staff is working on a program of events and activities throughout 2022to commemorate the occasion and seeks the City Council’s input, specifically on a potential community gala. The following is a summary of proposed events and activities.February Reception at City Council MeetingFebruary 1 is a regularly scheduled City Council meeting night, offering the opportunity toformally recognize the City’s anniversary in a public forum. This will include: -Reception before the meeting with appetizers and cake. 581 Page 2 of 3 -Original poem composed by and performed by Dublin’s Poet Laureate during the meeting.-Temporary art display (40-year historical perspective) in the Civic Center lobby.-Invitation to former elected officials to attend.March St Patrick’s Day – Anniversary-themed art contest, public performance by the Poet Laureate, and recognition of the anniversary during the annual parade. Special Exhibit at the Dublin Heritage Park and Museums - “1982 to Present Day” display to begin Spring 2022.April Documentary – Staff has already begun work on a documentary that will capture pivotal moments in Dublin’s history, from the perspective of longtime residents, members of the business community, and past and present elected officials. The film will also include photos and historical footage of events in the City. Staff anticipates presenting the film online as well as at in-person community events as feasible. Dublin Pride – Anniversary-themed Art Contest.September Splatter – Incorporation of the anniversary into the drone show finale, and 1980’s band as headlining act.Date to be Determined 40th Anniversary Gala – this could be held as a stand-alone event at an appropriate date during the year or could be incorporated into the City’s St. Patrick’s Day Festival, similar to the “Green and White Gala” that kicked off the festival in the past. Staff envisions a formal community celebration with food, music, and dancing. In addition to the preparing the above options, Staff has incorporated the Ruby Anniversary theme into the City logo (Attachment 1) and will be using that in online messaging, email signatures, City publications such as the Activity Guide and Annual Report, and on street banners (Attachment 2). Staff will also be reaching out to local businesses, particularly those that have been around since the City’s incorporation, and the Dublin Unified School District, to partner in promotional opportunities.City Council Participation in St. Patrick’s Day ParadeStaff is proposing that the City Council choose between a rented cable car and a City fire truck in which to ride along the parade route during the 2022 St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Neither option allows for tossing giveaways or for disembarking to walk along the route. Both options will include decorations and branding to commemorate the City’s 40th Anniversary as well as signage to present the City Council. 582 Page 3 of 3 STRATEGIC PLAN INITIATIVE:None.
