The Military Banner Program honors active-duty military personnel and veterans that reside in Dublin, have immediate family residing in Dublin, or have had a long-term, positive impact on the Dublin community. STAFF RECOMMENDATION:Present individual banners to Military Banner Program participants (honorees or banner sponsors). FINANCIAL IMPACT:None. DESCRIPTION:On January 9, 2018, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 07-18 approving the creation of a Military Banner Program. The Program honors active-duty military personnel and military veterans that reside in or have immediate family residing in the City of Dublin, or have had a long-term, positive impact on the Dublin community. The Program allows for someone to sponsor a banner (for a fee) to honor an active-duty member or veteran. The banners feature a photo of the honoree along with their name, rank, and branch of service.The program has run annually since 2018 but was suspended in 2020 due to COVID-19. In this third year of the Program, 12 military personnel/veterans were honored. The banners were located on City street light poles along Dougherty Road between Scarlett Drive and Amador Valley Boulevard, in the vicinity of the Parks Reserve Forces Training Area, between Memorial Day and Veterans Day (May through November) 2021. 10 Page 2 of 2 This year’s honorees were: Captain Toni Carter - U.S. Army (Veteran) Corporal Teddy M. Carter - U.S. Army (Veteran) Master Sergeant Alonzo M. Cook - U.S. Army Major John R. Hughes - U.S. Army Master Chief Petty Officer Shawn Kumagai - U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Charles Wellman Parks - U.S. Navy (Retired) Chief Petty Officer Jason R. Satter - U.S. Coast Guard Machinist's Mate 3 Gregory Shreeve - U.S. Navy (Veteran) Lieutenant Colonel Al Siegling - U.S. Army (Retired) Lieutenant Colonel Harvey L. Stockwell - U.S. Army (Retired) Major Cameron S. Strange - U.S. Army Corporal Daniel Van Bonn - U.S. Marine CorpsBanner sponsors and honorees will attend the City Council meeting to receive their banners. STRATEGIC PLAN INITIATIVE:None. NOTICING REQUIREMENTS/PUBLIC OUTREACH:The City Council Agenda was posted. Banner sponsors and honorees were invited to attend the meeting and a copy of this Staff Report was sent to the banner sponsors.
