HomeMy WebLinkAbout3.1 Presentation on Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Youth and Family Services BureauSTAFF REPORT CITY COUNCIL Page 1 of 2 Agenda Item 3.1 DATE:September 7, 2021 TO:Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers FROM:Linda Smith, City Manager SUBJECT:Presentation on Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Youth and Family Services BureauPrepared by:Nate Schmidt, Captain Dublin Police Services EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:The City Council will receive a presentation from Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Youth and Family Services Bureau Captain Marty Neideffer and Behavioral Health Unit Manager Kelly Glossup regarding the variety of programs they facilitate to support community members who are facing serious life challenges. STAFF RECOMMENDATION:Receive the presentation. FINANCIAL IMPACT:None. DESCRIPTION:Alameda County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) Captain Marty Neideffer is currently assigned to supervise the Youth and Family Services Bureau (YFSB) with the assistance of Behavioral Health Unit Manager Kelly Glossup. The YFSB employs clinicians, therapists, and case workers to work with children, adults, couples, and families in unincorporated Alameda County. They are dedicated to helping community members solve immediate problems and resume their lives with greater ease and sense of control. Staff from the YFSB use culturally sensitive, solution-focused, and strength-based approaches to help resolve challenges including: Family, couple, and parenting conflicts Transitioning out of jail or prison Addiction and substance use issues Academic and behavioral problems Violence, trauma, and abuse 6 Page 2 of 2 Bullying Gang involvement Anxiety, depression, and other emotional challenges Juvenile offender diversion counseling Employment, legal, and financial issuesThe City Council will receive a presentation from Captain Marty Neideffer and Behavioral Health Unit Manager Kelly Glossup on the on-going work which is being done by the YFSB.Staff continues to explore ways to enhance services provided to the Dublin community. The ACSO has found a way through the YFSB to bridge the gap between law enforcement services and ongoing clinical services. Staff will work with Captain Neideffer and Manager Glossup to determine if the services of the YFSB would be beneficial in the City of Dublin. STRATEGIC PLAN INITIATIVE:None.
