Costs are unknown at this time. Storage costs in the interim would be approximately $290 per month. DESCRIPTION: Professional Sports Marketing of Dublin has offered to donate to the City an electronic marquee sign. The marquee was previously located in front ofthe Lawlor Event Center at the University of Nevada inReno. The marquee sign is approximately 12 feet tall and 2212 feet wide, not including the base for the sign. The donation is of the marquee only and not the base. Professional Sports Marketing has requested a response from the City before December 31,1999. Staff has investigated two possible sites for the sign. (: \ . . . . The large size of the electronic marquee sign limits the locations in the City where the marquee could be installed. Staff has prepared several computer generated images of what the sign might look like at these potential locations. One location is the Dublin Sports Grounds and Civic Center on the southeast corner of Dublin Boulevard and Civic Plaza. Attachments 1-4 depict the sign at this location from several angles. The. second location is. Shannon Park on. the northwest corner of San Ramon Road and Shannon Avenue. Attachments 5-6 depict the scale of the sign in this location. Attachments 7-8 show the size of the sign in comparison to the large signs located at the Dublin Auto Center and Toyota dealership. In reviewing the two potential locations, Staff believes that the size and scale of the sign is not compatible with the Shannon Center location. The Civic Center location is also not ideal, as the design of the sign does not-blend well with the architecture of the Civic Center, and may be too large. If the sign were to be accepted by the City Council, it could be used by the City to promote recreation programs and classes, special events and other civic and community related information. As notedpreviously, the donation is of the electronic marquee only and not the base. Consequently, there would be a cost associated with the design,.engineering and construction ofa foundation. and base for the marquee. Also unknown at this time is whether the control panel to program the sign will be included with the donation of the marquee. Ifnot, this will be an additional costas well. Because time is of the essence, Staff has not been able to prepare a full cost analysis for the Council to consider atthis time. . ( . , ~------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ COPIES TO: G:\COUNCIL\1221 signdonation.DOC lithe Council wishes to accept the gift of the electronic marquee sign, it would need to be stored until it could be installed. The cost of a storage unit large enough to house the marquee would be $290 per month. There is a unit that would become available in Livermore on January 1, 2000. There were no other units large enough for the marquee available at this time in the Tri-Valley. .""-,, Staff recommends that the City Council determine whether to accept the gift of the electronic marquee sign. If the Council wishes to accept the gift, it is recommended that Staff work with representatives from Professional Sports Marketing to conduct a feasibility study to identify costs and to determine if an appropriate location for the sign can found. .:...1 ..~ "w1I -2- .....; ~.,: .
