Parade Entry Application Float Building Workshop Flyer RECOMMENDATION: /7 .4..r7 Provide direction on the type of entry the City Council prefers, and / ~v~. direct Staff to submit a parade application on behalf of the Council FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Sufficient funds are available in the FY 1998/99 Budget to pay for the $25.00 entry fee. DESCRIPTION: The Dublin Lion's Club will be holding their annual 51. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday, March 13, 1999, beginning at 9:30 A.M. The parade route will be the same as in the past, beginning on Dublin Boulevard at Amador Plaza Road and ending on Amador Valley Boulevard at Regional Street. Staff has checked with CalTrans and there will be no impact on the parade route due to the freeway construction. In the past the City Council has participated in the parade as either a walking entry or as a vehicle entry. Last year the City Council secured the use of a convertible vehicle and drove along the parade route. The City Council has the option of walking in the parade, riding in a car, or participating in a different manner such as building a float. If it is the intent of the Council to participate in the parade, it is recommended that the City Council provide direction on the type of entry they prefer, and direct Staff to submit a parade application on their behalf. As a new event this year, the City will be hosting a Float Building Workshop on Saturday, February 6, from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon at the Shannon Community Center. The workshop will assist Dublin organizations with the design, construction and decoration of a float. DUBLIN LIONS. CLUB GREETINGS AGAIN! It's hard to believe ST. PATRICK'S DAY is just around the corner. In just two short months, the DUBLIN LIONS CLUB will be hosting its ANNUAL ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE. This years parade will take place on SATURDAY MARCH 13.1999 beainnina at 9:30 a.m. As the Chairperson for the 1999 DUBLIN LIONS CLUB ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE committee, I would like to extend to you our cordial invitation to join with us in celebrating OUR day by participating in our parade. Our emphasis has always been on having a good time and demonstrating to the adjoining communities our sincere community spirit. Following the parade, the City of Dublin, plans to continue the celebration with entertainment, games, and, of course, your choice of a wide variety of culinary delights. Dublin's celebration will be held on Regional Street. We sincerely look forward to seeing you and yours at the parade on Saturday March 13, 1999. The deadline for filing your application for participation is February 28, 1999. Due to the increased cost of insurance, advertising, mailing and permits, we can' no longer wave our entry fee to special groups. The entry- fee for participation in the parade is $25.00 (per entry, not individual participant). The entry fee must be submitted with the completed application.
