Salary for Members of the City Council

FINANCIAL STATEMENT: There would be no financial impact on the City until
December 16, 1986. The full year cost resulting from
the increase in salaries would amount to $8 ,100 per
year .
DESCRIPTION At its meeting of April 8, 1985 , the Dublin City
Council introduced an ordinance which would provide for an increase in City
Council compensation to $300 per month , effective December 16 , 1986.
This ordinance is in accordance with the recent change in the salary
schedule for City Councils in General Law cities as provided by Assembly
Bill 2281 which became law in January, 1985 .
This ordinance would not become effective until after one or more
Councilmembers begin a new term. Since the next City Council election will
be consolidated with the County election on November 4, 1986, and the County
Registrar has up to 28 days to certify the results of the election, it would
be in order to assure that the effective date of the ordinance would be
after the certification of the election results. It is recommended that the
City Council adopt the ordinance with an effective date of December 16,
1986 .

AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 15 - 84
PROVIDING A SALARY
FOR MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
Section 1 . AMENDMENT
Ordinance No . 15 - 84 is hereby amended by adding
Section 2 which provides as follows :
"Effective December 16, 1986, each member of the City
Council shall receive a salary of $300 per month. "
Section 2 . POSTING OF ORDINANCE
The City Clerk of the City of Dublin shall cause this
Ordinance to be posted in at least three ( 3 ) public places in the
City of Dublin in accordance with Section 36933 of the Government
Code of the State of California .

SUBJECT: Statutory Limits on City Council Salaries
DATE: May 22, 1984
At its meeting of May 14, 1984 the City Council requested Staf.f
to report back to the City Council on May 29, 1984 regarding AB
2281, which was signed by Governor Deukmejian on April 30, 1984 .
From discussions with the City Attorney and the League of
California Cities regarding the bill, Staff has determined the
following:
1 . Since the Governor signed this bill on April 30,
1984, it does not become effective until January
1, 1985. 'Therefore the City Council could adopt
an ordinance increasing its compensation
to $300 .UU until after January 1, 1985 .
2. If the City Council adopted such an ordinance
after January 1, 1905, the City Council could
not actually receive any increase in
compensation until after its next regularly
scheduled Municipal Election, November 1985 .
