(The cost of the bus stop pole and sign would be paid by the County Connection.) DESCRIPTION: This is the second reading of this proposed ordinance. Staff received a request from an elderly resident of San Ramon to have a bus stop placed on the west side of Village Parkway across from the.post office. There is already an existing stop on the east side of the street. The nearest stop on the west side of the street is at the corner of Amador Valley Boulevard near the Oil Changer, which can be a long walk for an elderly person. Staff.contacted the County Connection, which has no objection to placing a bus stop at this location. The County Connection is currently the only bus which serves this portion of Village Parkway. There is existing red curb in this area for sight distance and for a fire hydrant location (see Location Map, Exhibit 2). Only one on-street parking space will be remO'~ed by this action. Staff has notified the businesses that are directly adjacent to this area. The office and retail buildings in this area have on-site parking available for customers. At the May 14, 1996, Council meeting, a concern was expressed that a bus stopped at this location would cause a traffic backup and a problem for drive, rs making a northbound-to-southbound U-turn. Stafffeels that this situation will not occur frequently, since the bus would only stop if there were passengers getting gSagenmisc\busstop COPIES TO: County Connection ITEM NO. on or off. This would not be a "rest stop" or transfer point at which the bus would remain at the stop for any length of time. Staff.recommends that the City Council conduct a public hearing, deliberate, waive the reading, and adopt the ordinance.
