Sufficient funds are budgeted in the Street Maintenance Operating Budget. .. DESCRIPTION: California Vehicle Code (CVC) Section 22500(a) provides that parking is prohibited "within an intersection. except adjacent to curbs as may be permitted by local ordinance." This section typically prohibits parking in crosswalks and on curb returns (radii). The intersection of Sierra Court and Trinity Court is located in a business/industrial park area and was designed with larger than usual curb radii to allow for the turning radii of large trucks. Currently, vehicles are being parked on the curb returns at this intersection, causing a visibility problem for drivers coming out of Trinity Court. Police Services feels that since the curb radii are so large, a parking citation based on CVC Section 22500(a) may not hold up in court. Staff recommends installing red curb on the curb radii at this intersection so that it is clear that parking is not allowed in these areas. While there are quite a number of vehicles parked on the street on Trinity Court and on Sierra Court between Trinity Court and the north end of the street, there is a considerable amount of available on-street parking on Sierra Court south of Trinity Court. Staff feels this action is not actually removing on-street parking spaces since it is not legal to park on the curb returns; rather, this action is assisting Police Services' ability to enforce the Vehicle Code provision. Staff recommends that the City Council conduct a public hearing, deliberate. and adopt the resolution. _.--.--------------------------------------------------------:---------- :>: _ . .
