DESCRIPTION : For the past three years, the city council has approved free use of the Regional Meeting Room by the Valley Volunteer Center for their management assistance workshop series for the nonprofit community. The Valley Volunteer Center is once again aSking for the city's support of this-program by making the Regional Meeting Room available at no charge for their 1993/94 workshops. During 1992/93, the valley Volunteer Center conducted 20 seminars in Dublin which were attended by over 325 nonprofit staff members, volunteers and board members. The seminars were designed to provide information to local community based organizations so that they can stay current on topics crucial for a nonprofit's well-being. Presenters spoke on topics such as personnel management, time management, media relations and legal aspects of screening volunteers. As stated in the attached correspondence from Program Director Christine Lafferty, they are requesting use for a maximum of 25 separate workshops and have indicated that the scheduling of these workshops can be fairly flexible so as to not interfere with city use. As was done during the previous three years, the workshops would be scheduled on a quarterly basis for Fall, Winter and Spring, and the actual workshop dates would be selected approximately six weeks to two months prior to the start of the quarter. If the city were to charge the Valley volunteer Center for use of the Regional Meeting Room as requested, the revenue generated would total approximately $1,450. However, by waiving these use fees, the city would become a major donor for the Valley Volunteer Center and be listed as such on the major donor list. It is the recommendation of Staff that the City council consider the request from the Valley Volunteer Center for use of the Regional Meeting Room at no cost for 25 Nonprofit Management Services workshops between September of 1993 through June of 1994. ::::-::~-~~-jf-------------------::::::-::~--:::::~-:::::::::-:::::: CITY CLERK FILE ~ .~ , Board of Directors Pat Smith President Carol Verity Vice.P,...sident SfJCretary Kathy Blackburn Vice-President Jane Staehle Vice.Presid8nt Doug Bell Treasurer Valerie Barnes Charlie Biederman Heidi Hanson Bowes I")avid Cooper '"" ':e Decker Charles DePaoli Timothy Farley Susan Gallinger Jorge Garrett Roger Grossman Carol Mitchell George Richards Helen Robinson Donna J. Box 2340 Dub;in,CA 94568 Dear Diane, Plans are under way for our 1993-1993 management assistance workshop series for the nonprofit community. As in past few years. I am requesting to use the Regional Meeting Room for our training site. We plan to hold 20 half day workshops and 5 full day workshops between September 12, 1993 and June 20. 1994. We would work with your department in scheduling the workshops so as not to conflict with the city's use of the room. Many nonprofit organizations are facing massive cutbacks and affordable training is critical. We intend to maintain our current fee structures ($35 for half day workshops, $65 for full day) in order to make the workshops affordable for the vast majority of agencies in the area. We are very pleased to list the City of Dublin as a major donor and to acknowledge the city's support on the workshop materials. Thank you for considering this request. I would be happy to provide any additional support materials you might require and we are open to doing whatever we can to continue our partnership with the city.
