FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION The City has received a letter from Californians
Against Waste requesting the City' s support of Assembly Bill 2020. Assembly
Bill 2020 would provide for the passing of a state beverage container
deposit law. This bill would place a 5 cent deposit on all beverage
bottles.
Staff has prepared a resolution supporting this bill for Council consid-
eration.

Dear Local Official;
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
For years local government has been plagued with the enormous and
growing cost of dealing with litter and solid waste.
For years, the League of California Cities, the County Supervisors
Association of California and hundreds of local officials have urged
legislation to reduce this burden by passing a state beverage
container deposit law, or bottle bill.
Yet despite recent polls that show 80% public support for the bottle
bill, the state legislature has still not acted.
The time has come for local officials to express their strong support
for the bottle bill.
A California bottle bill would be of enormous benefit to local
government by:
* Reducing litter - total litter would be reduced by 30%
* Reducing solid waste
* Saving tax dollars - litter clean up costs local and state
government $100 million a year, and solid waste disposal cost
$1 . 6 billion
* Saving natural resources
* Creating jobs
Californians Against Waste is a non-profit environmental lobby
representing over 38,000 Californians who want to see a bottle bill
pass. Can we count on your support? Can you:
- Endorse the current bottle bill; Assembly Bill 2020
- Work to pass a local resolution in favor of AB 2020
- Join a local bottle bill coalition
- Write or call your legislators to urge their support
AB 2020, by Assemblyman Burt Margolin and Senator Becky Morgan is now
on the Assembly floor, and it has its best chance ever to pass.

RESOLUTION NO. - 85
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN

SUPPORTING ASSEMBLY BILL 2020
(BOTTLE BILL)
WHEREAS, the State Legislature is presently considering
the adoption of Assembly Bill 2020, a State Beverage Container
Deposit Law; and
WHEREAS, the passage of this bill would reduce litter
and solid waste and save natural resources.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Dublin does hereby support Assembly Bill 2020 and
urges the State Legislature to give this bill favorable
consideration.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 25th day of November,
1985.
