HomeMy WebLinkAbout4.7 Street Light Conversion AGENDA STATEMENT CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: June 10 , 1985 SUBJECT : Conversion of Street Lights to High Pressure Sodium Lamps EXHIBITS ATTACHED : Resolution RECOMMENDATION: Adopt resolution to authorize PG&E to proceed with the conversion program. FINANCIAL STATEMENT: The portion of the conversion cost not covered by PG&E would be approximately $100 . 00 and would be paid by the street light assessment district. DESCRIPTION: Many governmental agencies have converted mercury vapor street lights to high pressure sodium. This can provide a benefit to the City. The pressure sodium lamps can produce the same lighting level at about half the cost for electricity and PG&E has a program which provides partial funding for the conversion. The City has only two lights which have not been converted. These lights are located at the intersection of Shannon Avenue and San Ramon Road. PG&E currently maintains these lights and they would complete the conversion. PG&E requires a City Council resolution authorizing the conversion . It is recommended that the City Council approve the resolution directing the City Manager to authorize PG&E to proceed with the conversion program for street lights . ----------------------------------------------------------------- ITEM NO. / - 7 COPIES TO: RESOLUTION NO. -85 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN ------------------------------------------------------------------ DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO AUTHORIZE PG&E TO PROCEED WITH THE CONVERSION PROGRAM FOR STREET LIGHTS WHEREAS, the California Utilities Commission has authorized funding for a 1984 Energy Management Incentive Program; and WHEREAS, Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) has allocated budgeted funds for Energy Management Incentives including. the upgrading of customer owned street and highway lighting; and WHEREAS, Conversion of street lighting owned by the City of Dublin to more efficient lighting qualifies for the incentive program and will result in lower energy costs . NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the City of Dublin directs it ' s City Manager to provide PG&E with the necessary authorization to proceed with a conversion program in accordance with PG&E ' s normal group relamping schedule . The manager is further directed to determine costs if any exceeding PG&E' s basic incentive criteria . PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 10th day of June, 1985 .
