* This amount is the $4,500 estimated at bid award, plus the additional appropriation approved by Council
of $6,144 at the time of contract award.
This contract is $650.88 over budget due to some necessary additional pavement striping. Although this
contract is over budget, no budget change will be made until all accruals for the Street Maintenance
Operating Budget have been posted to determine if the entire budget is over or under budget.
DESCRIPTION: On May 19, 1998, the City Council awarded the annual slurry seal
contract to Valley Slurry Seal. This project is a preventive maintenance application used to prolong the

wearing surface. City streets are presently on a five- to seven-year cycle. Before seal coats are applied to
the streets, oil spots are removed and asphalt failures are repaired.
The City Engineer has reviewed the work on the project and determined that it is complete and in
accordance with the approved specifications. Staffrecommends that the City Council accept the
improvements under this contract and approve the budget change to cover all improvement costs.
