FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Registration Cost - $75 . 00
Sufficient funds are available in the Legal Services
budget .
DESCRIPTION Pursuant to the terms of the City Attorney' s agreement
for employment reimbursement for attendance at the Annual City Attorney ' s
Department meeting is provided. However , reimbursement for other seminars
requires City Council approval.
The seminar on Land Use Regulations is part of the League ' s Continuing
Education Program or Municipal Attorneys . This type of training will
benefit the City, given the changing legal requirements in this area . The
seminar is being conducted in Oakland and sufficient funds are available .
It is recommended. that the City Council authorize the reimbursement for this
training expense .

This special one-day training program for municipal attorneys will comprehensively
examine land use regulations. It should provide an exceptional educational oppor-
tunity not only for those more recently entering municipal law practice, but also
for the "seasoned veterans."
Expert attorneys practicing in both the public and private sector will be presen-
ting this intensive session. The 1986 panelists are:

Jim Longtin, City Attorney, La Quinta
Bob Merritt, McCutchen, Doyle, Brown & Enerson, San Francisco

The panelists will cover the substantive areas listed on page 2 of this announce-
ment.
All program participants will receive an in-depth outline at the time of the meeting.
Following the Seminar, we have scheduled a social hour from 4:45 p.m to 6:00 p.m. .
At this time the panelists will be available in a less formal atmosphere to answer
questions not addressed during the Seminar.
To minimize travel expenses and encourage maximum attendance by all municipal
attorneys, this training program will be presented twice - once in Northern
California and once in Southern California. It is designed to benefit the City
Attorney as well as his or her staff.
