AGENDA STATEMENT CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: March 4,1997 SUBJECT: Removal of the BART Contractor's Corporation Yard at the End of Golden Gate DrivelEast Dublin BART Parking Capacity Report Prepared by: Lee $. Thompson, Public Works Director EXHIBITS ATTACHED: Draft letter to the BART Board of Directors RECOMMENDATION: ~uthorize the Mayor to sign and send the attached draft letter FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: The City Council, at its meeting on February 18, 1997, directed tllat a letter be sent to BART requesting a schedule for when BART's contractor will remove the corporation . yard from the end of Golden Gate Drive. The City has endured the visual detriment of the storage of equipment and materials for several years on the West Dublin BART property while the freeway and BART work has been underway. As the BART project is winding down, it would be appropriate for the property to be restored to its pre-construction condition. Council expressed a separate concern related to the adequacy of the parking lot capacity at the East Dublin BART Station. It was suggested by the City Council that BART inform Dublin of any back-up plans that would be implemented by BART should the planned parking lot be found to be inadequate. In addition, Council is requesting a tour of the new Eastern Dublin BART Station to view the construction progress. Staff recommends that Council review the attached letter and, if acceptable, authorize the Mayor to sign and send the letter to BART on behalf ofthe City Council. .---------------~-----------~-----~---------------------~----------- COPIES TO: 4.9 ITEM NO. g:agenmisc\bartnnvl February 25, 1997 bt) 4'r~:; .. ~ . ~ :tt;~ . Board of Directors BAY AREA RAPID TRANSIT 800 Madison Street Oakland CA 94604-2688 SUBJECT: BART Contractor's Corporation Yard - Golden Gate Drive On behalf of the City Council, we would like to express how eager th(: people of Dublin are for the long-awaited BART access to other parts of the Bay Area. The City would like to bring to your attention one aspect of this construction that has been a blemish on the City landscape and that we are looking forward to having completed. That is the construction storage and activity on the site of the future West Dublin BART Station located on Golden Gate Drive. . . The Dublin City Council is requesting that these corporation yards now be phased out with the .. completion of your rail line to Eastern Dublin and would appreciate it if you would provide a schedule for the removal of the construction storage and activity at this location. In a second matter, City Council is concerned as to what action BART will take should the East Dublin BART Station parking lot prove to be inadequate. Would you please let us know what the back-up plans are should this occur. As this letter indicates, Council has been very interested in the progress of the Eastern Dublin line and would appreciate your staff hosting another tour of the nearly completed facility. Thank you in advance for your consideration and cooperation. Sincerely, Mayor Guy Houston . GH/LST/mb cc: Kathy Mayo, BART Amelco Electric g:\agenmisclbartltr
