Both projects are proposed to be constructed in two phases, the 1996-97 Fiscal Year being Phase I for each project. The two projects are being combined because of the similarity of type of work, the close proximity of the two projects, and the potential savings due to the order of magnitude of the project. San Ramon Road Landscaping Repair: This project will replace the roadside Vinca ground cover between West Vomac Road and Silvergate Drive. Phase I is from Shannon Avenue to Silvergate Drive on the west side of the roadway. Phase II, tentatively planned for Fiscal Year I997-98, will be from West Vomac Road to Shannon Avenue on the west side of the street, and from West Vomac Road to Silvergate Drive on the east side of the street. COPIES TO: ITEM NO. 4'.~ g:miscpr oj\srsitver\agstauth Due to the soil conditions along San Ramon Road and flooding in the vicinity of Shannon Park, the Vinca ground cover has not done well, and City Maintenance Staff has been battling a constant weed problem. This project will replace the upper soil with imported topsoil and relandscape with ivy. After establishment, the ground cover will tend to choke out weed grog'th and reduce the cost of weed control. It will also improve the aesthetics of the roadside landscaping. $ilvergate Median Landscaping: Phase I of this project will install new landscaping in the medians at the east end of Sih,ergate Drive between Peppertree Road and San Ramon Road. Phase II will up~ade the landscaping that exists in the medians at the south end of Silvergate Drive at Dublin Blvd.. This Phase II project is proposed to be combined with the project to widen Dublin Boulevard (Hansen Drive to Silvergate Drive) in Fiscal Year 1997-98. Both areas will be fully irrigated. The plant materials x~511 be primarily trees and shrubs with some perennial flowers. Brick areas will be included to reduce future landscaping and irrigation costs. The landscaping on the south end of Silvergate Drive has never reached its potential, basically due to lack of irri~ation, plus the need for a more integrated design for the plant materials. The medians at the east end o~the street have never been landscaped and have been left as bare soil. Plans and specifications have been prepared for bidding. Staff recommends that City Council authorize Staffto advertise for bids on these two combined Capital Improvements Projects as one bid package.
