Update on Mape Memorial Park Renovation 96-08

FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION: The Mape Memorial Park renovation project began on Monday,
December 9, 1996. Unfortunately the project has been plagued by poor weather which has resulted in
unworkable conditions (standing water, mud, etc.). The projected completion date for the project has now
been extended to April 28, 1997 with the maintenance period ending on or about July 28, 1997.
To date the con~'actor has completed scheduled demolition of the site and work has begun on the
following activities: 1) installation of irrigation mainlines; and 2) surveying and layout of playground,
volleyball court and concrete path. If the weather continues to remain dry, construction activity should
continue to pick up over the course of the next few weeks.
With regard to the rededicafion of the park, Staff believes that the event could safely be planned for mid to
late August, 1997. The Parks and Community Services Commission will consider plans for the
rededication at their March meeting and the recommendations fi.om the Commission will be presented to
the City Council for approval on April 1, 1997.
