FINANCIAL STATEMENT:
Authorize Staff to advertise for bids.
The Dublin City Council approved the Agreement with Alameda
Flood Control and Water Conservation District on May 24,
1993. The Agreement states that the pilot project will be
funded by the Alameda County Urban Runoff Clean Water
Program. The total amount paid by the District to Dublin
shall not exceed the sum of $33,600.00.
DESCRIPTION: The Alameda County Urban Runoff Clean Water Program
(ACURCWP) has set aside $300,000 to encourage agencies to propose pilot projects to
improve the storm water quality in a cost effective way. The pervious concrete/sand
filter project for the Shannon community Center parking lot (as shown in Exhibit 1)
is one of the pilot projects chosen to be fully funded by the ACURCWP.
The City of Dublin Public Works Department proposes to construct two (2) concrete
filter structures 1 1/2 feet wide by 2 feet deep. One will be 35 feet long and the
other 20 feet long. This concrete canal is filled with sand and covered with 5-foot
long pervious concrete covers. The canal will act as a filter to remove some of the
hazardous material from storm water which flows down the creek to the Bay.
Pervious concrete is a mixture of gravel and cement with air voids that allows storm
water to pass through while allowing light vehicle traffic to pass over the top.
The filtering sand is a mixture of sand particles that are blended to filter out
the heavy metal found in our storm water. The sand that becomes saturated with
pollutants can then be disposed of by mixing it in with base rock for roadway
construction.
Staff recommends authorization to solicit bids for this project.
