RECOMMENDATION: ~ Adopt resolution approving amendment to agreement
FINANCIAL STATEMENT:
Sidewalk grinding is a part of the Annual Sidewalk Repair Capital
Improvement Project. Approximately $12,000 is available
specifically for the grinding work. The effect of this amendment
would be a reduction in number of locations that could be ground.
At the original $19.98 unit price, approximately 600 locations could
be ground. At the proposed $21.98 unit price, approximately 545
locations could be ground.
DESCRIPTION: Contract 98-02 was awarded to Central Coast Surface Grinding in
May of 1998. The unit price for the initial year of work was $19.98. This is a two-year contract which
allows the contractor to request an adjustment of rates for the second year, subject to the City's approval.
Central Coast Surface Grinding has submitted a request for a 10% unit price increase, based on increases
in the price of fuel and accommodations.
Staff feels that the request is reasonable, particularly in relation to the increased cost of fuel. Central
Coast Surface Grinding's performance has been exemplary, and past work has been completed in a timely
manner and with a minimal amount of disruption to neighborhoods. Therefore, Staffrecommends that the
City Council adopt the resolution approving the amendment to the agreement.

AMENDMENT- TO AGREEMENT
BETWEEN CITY OF DUBLIN AND CENTRAL COAST SURFACE GRINDING
FOR SIDEWALK GRINDING SERVICES (CONTRACT 98-02)
WHEREAS, the City of Dublin (hereinafter referred to as "CITY") and Central Coast
Surface Grinding (hereinafter referred to as "CONTRACTOR"), entered into a two-year agreement on
May 19, 1998, to provide sidewalk grinding sdrvices to CITY; and
WHEREAS, the agreement for the work provides that the Contractor may request an
adjustment of rates for the second year of the agreement; and
WHEREAS, Contractor has requested a 10% increase in unit price based on increased cost
of providing the service; and
WHEREAS, the City and Contractor agree that the increase is reasonable.
NOW, THEREFORE, the parties hereto agree as follows:
Adjustment of Rates
The unit cost per grinding location is increased from $19.98 per location to $21.98 per location.
The number of locations shall be determined by the available funds for the work.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN
APPROVING AMENDMENT TO AGREEMENT
ANNUAL SIDEWALK REPAIR PROJECT
SIDEWALK GRINDING CONTRACT 98-02
WHEREAS, Contract 98-02 is a two year contract which provides that rate adjustments may be
negotiated for work to be completed in the second year; and
WHEREAS, the Contractor, Central Coast Surface Grinding, has requested a 10% unit price
increase based on the increased cost of providing the services as outlined in said Contract 98-02; and
WHEREAS, the request is reasonable, particularly in view of fuel cost increases in excess of 30%;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Dublin approves
the amendment to the agreement {Exhibit lh which provides for a 10% unit price increase from $19.98
per location to $21.98 per location.
