Much of the widening will be accomplished by eliminating on-street parking and restriping Dublin Boulevard. Physical widening is proposed to take place near intersections, where left- and right-turn lanes will be added, and in front of some existing businesses where right-of-way was not previously obtained through new development. In addition, the project will reconstruct and update five traffic signals, move the existing median in some locations, and replace some of the existing landscaping. The intent of the project is to improve traffic flow on Dublin Boulevard to provide for the intensification of business in the downtown area as well as for the impacts from the future BART station. This project is financed primarily through the Intennodal Surface Transportation and Efficiency Act (ISTEA)'and through developer contributions, including BART mitigation contributions. Staff has notified all of the businesses in the project area that work will begin this summer and should be completed in late fall. Project specifications require that access to businesses be kept open at all times. If necessary, work will be performed outside of normal business hours in order to complete the project on schedule and lessen the impact on the downtown area. The City has obtained the right-of-way necessary for this project and has received authorization from the State to go to bid. Staff requests that the City Council authorize advertisement for bids. g:ldbw yro)1projectlagstauth j -----------~--._~------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ITEM NO !J..1j COPIES TO: 5' PROJECT SITE DU3LIN CANYON VICINITY.
