Adopt Resolution awarding bid to American Asphalt Repair
& Resurfacing Co., Inc.
Authorize Mayor to execute agreement
Authorize Staff to approve an extension of bid items not
to exceed a total construction cost of $87,000

The cost of design and inspection is budgeted in the Engineering Operating Budget as
part of the General Engineering cost.
DESCRIPTION: At its meeting of July 26, 1993, the City Council authorized
Staff to advertise for bids for Contract 93-10, Annual Street Slurry Seal Program.
Slurry Seal is a preventive maintenance technique used to prolong the life of a
street. It consists of a sand/oil mixture which seals cracks and provides a new
uniform wearing surface. The slurrying of City streets is presently on a seven-year
cycle.
With the Slurry Seal Program, the quantity of pavement repairs for bidding purposes
are estimated by using a representative sample method. Once the contract has been
awarded, actual pavement failure areas are painted out in the field. These
quantities will differ from the bid quantities. Also, additional street pavements
often break up while repairs are being made. As the whole project is normally
completed with a two-week period, Staff would like to have the flexibility of
authorizing additional repair work in the field but not to exceed the total budget
of $87,000°
Five (5) bids were received, the lowest of which was $75,044.90 from American
Asphalt Repair & Resurfacing Co., Inc.
Staff has reviewed the low bidder's proposal and is familiar with the low bidder's
work and recommends that the City Council award the bid to American Asphalt.

OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN
AWARDING CONTBACT 93-10 ANNUAL STREET SLURRY SEAL pRO~RAM
TO
AMERICA~ ASPHALT REPAIR & RESUNFACING CO., INCJ
WHEREAS, the City of Dublin did, on August 17, 1993, publicly open,
examine, and declare all sealed bids for doing the work described in the approved
Plans, Specifications, and Modifications for Contract 93-10 ANNUAL STREET SLURRY
SEAL PROGRAM authorized by the City Council on July 26, 1993, which Plans,
Specifications, and Modifications are hereby expressly referred to for a description
of said work and for all particulars relative to the proceedings under the request
for bids; and
WHEREAS, said bids were submitted to the City Engineer, who has
recomn%ended that the bid hereinafter mentioned is the lowest and best bid for doing
said work.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Dublin does hereby award city of Dublin Contract 93-10 to the lowest responsible
bidder therefor, to wit American Asphalt Repair & Resurfacing Co., Inc., at a bid of
Seventy-Five Thousand Forty-Four Dollars and Ninety Cents ($75,044.90), the
particulars of which bid are on file in the Office of the City Engineer
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 23rd day of August, 1993.
