The remaining budget will be used to grind approximately 600 offset sidewalk locations as part of a separate contract. DESCRIPTION: In April of 1995, the City Council awarded the annual sidewalk safety repair (remove and replace) contract to Lucas Concrete. This project removed and replaced offset and broken sidewalk, curb, and gutter, and included installation of handicap ramps, primarily on residential street comers. The construction of 19 handicap ramps was funded by a Community Development Block Grant. While maintenance of sidewalks and other frontage improvements is legally the responsibility of the private property owner, the City Council has adopted a City-paid sidewalk repair program on a year-by- year basis since 1983. At the budget hearing for Fiscal Year 1994-95, the City Council agreed to extend the City-paid repair program for an additional year. The City Engineer has reviewed the work on the project and has determined that the work is complete and in accordance with the approved specifications.
