* This work has been budgeted, together with the grinding project, in the General Fund; however, the
grinding portion wilt be bid separately at a later date. Staffwill reduce the quantities of the grinding
portion of the program prior to bidding to keep the total project within budget.
DESCRIPTION: On March 3, 1998, the City Council authorized Staff to solicit bids
for Contract 98-01, Annual Sidewalk Safety Repair project.
The Annual Sidewalk Safety Repair project repairs sidewalk locations that are offset 3/4" or more and may
pose a tripping hazard. This contract specifies removal of existing sidewalk, curb and gutter, and in the
case of root problems, removal of tree roots, installation of a root barrier to mitigate future problems, and
then replacement of the concrete sidewalk. This year, the construction of four handicap ramps is also
included.
A total of 10 bids were received. The low bidder was Strange & Chalmers, Inc., with a bid of $32,205.36.
Staffhas reviewed the bid results, checked with references, and recommends that the City Council adopt
the resolution awarding the bid to Strange & Chalmers, Inc.

AWARDING CONTRACT 98-01,
1998 ANNUAL SIDEWALK SAFETY REPAIR PROGRAM
AND HANDICAP RAMP CONSTRUCTION
TO STRANGE & CHALMERS, INC.
WHEREAS, the City of Dublin did on March 26, 1998, publicly open, examine, and declare all
sealed bids for doing the work described in the approved Plans, Specifications, and Modifications for
Contract 98-01, 1998 Annual Sidewalk Safety Repair Program and Handicap Ramp Construction,
authorized by the City Council on March 3, 1998, which Plans, Specifications, and Modifications are
hereby expressly referred to for a description of said work and for all particulars relative to the proceedings
under the request for bids; and
WHEREAS, said bids were submitted to the City Engineer, who has reviewed the bids to
determine the lowest bid which was responsive to the requirements of the bid documents;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Dublin does hereby
award Contract 98-01 to the lowest responsible bidder therefor, to wit, Strange & Chalmers, Inc., at a bid
of Thirty-Two Thousand Two Hundred Five Dollars and Thirty-Six Cents ($32,205.36), the particulars of
which bid are on file in the office of the City Engineer.
