Authorization to Solicit Bids - Dougherty Hills Slope Repair

RECOMMENDATION: Authorize Staff to advertise for bids.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: The project costs are budgeted in the Capital Improvement Budget.
The total project budget is $ 405,650 with $300,000 budgeted for
construction work.
DESCRIPTION: This contract consists of repairing localized slope failures caused by
a combination of weather conditions and soil characteristics. The location of the repair will include the
slope above the south end of Crossridge Road west of the existing housing development, both the
northeast and southeast comers of the slope adjacent to Jade Cimle and the northeast comer of the slope
adjacent to Topaz Circle.
Repairs to the~ areas will include removing unsuitable soil at the above locations and replacing it with
suitable soil found on the ridge of the Dougherty Hills. The primary goal for this project is to repair the
trustable conditions presented .by the existing slides and return the condition of the open space as closely
as possible to its present aesthetic state. Also included in this project is the replacement of portions of the
existing concrete "Vee" Ditch where adverse drainage conditions exist and installation of sub-drains in the
slopes to intercept and carry offwaters from areas within the slope.
Notices will be sent out prior to the beginning o£work in order to advise residents of the work to be
performed. Where property owners have landscaped their hillside, and the City will need to remove the
landscaping to make repairs, the City will either contract separately for the relandscaping or pay the
property owners to relandscape their properties.
Staffrecommends that the City Council authorize StaffIo advertise for bids.
