FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION: Government Code Sections 34905 and 36801 require the City
Council to meet after a General Municipal Election and choose one of its members as Vice Mayor/Mayor
Pro Tempore. In the absence of the Mayor, the Vice Mayor would become Mayor Pro Tempore and
would assume the temporary responsibilities of the Mayor.
At the City Council meeting of November 4, 1996, the City Council determined that it would select the
.";-., Vice Mayor on December 4,1996.
i. Staff recommends the City Council determine who shall serve as Vice Mayor for a one year period.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN

ESTABLISHING RULES FOR THE SELECTION OF VICE MAYOR
AND REPEALING RESOLUTION NO. 5-87
WHEREAS, the City consolidates its general municipal election with the statewide general election
held in November of even-numbered years; and
WHEREAS, Section 36801 of the California Government Code provides for the selection by the
Council of one of its members as vice mayor.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Dublin hereby
adopts the following rules:

Time. At the City Council's first meeting in December, following certification of
the results of the general municipal election in even-numbered years, the City
Council shall select one of its members as vice mayor.
At the City Council's first meeting in December of odd numbered years, the City
Council shall select one of its members as vice mayor.
Term. The vice mayor shall serve in such capacity for a I-year period, or until a
successor is selected.
Rules. The procedure for selection of vice mayor shall be in accordance with the
current edition of "Roberts Rules of Order".
BE IT FURTHER RESOL YED that Resolution No. 5-87 is hereby rescinded in its entirety.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 9th day of January, 1996.
