SUBJECT: Selection of Vice Mayor

RECOM:MENDATION: 4-\J'\Y' Elect and install Vice Mayor
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION: Government Code Sections 34905 and 36801 require the
City Council to meet after a General Municipal Election and choose one of its members as Vice
Mayor/Mayor Pro Tempore. In the absence of the Mayor, the Vice Mayor would become Mayor
Pro Tempore and would assume the temporary responsibilities of the Mayor.
In November, 1986, the City Council established a policy whereby biannual election of the Vice
Mayor would occur following the General Municipal Election.
Staff recommends that the City Council determine who shall serve as Vice Mayor until the
November, 1996 election.
