FINANCIAL STATEMENT: The budget for construction of the countertops is $15,000. Only one bid was received in the amount of $29,950. DESCRIPTION: The 2008-2013 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) identified a project to renovate the kitchen at Fire Station 16, located at 7494 Donohue Drive. The renovation includes replacing countertops and aging kitchen appliances. In compliance with the City of Dublin's Purchasing Ordinance, the portion of this project to replace the countertops was put out to bid. On September 9, 2009, one bid was received from Champion Industrial Contractors, Inc., in the amount of $29,950.00, which was significantly higher than the available funds for this portion of the project. Because the bid was nearly two times the amount budgeted, Staff recommends that the City Council reject the bid. Staff has developed a solution to repair the existing countertops without having to replace them. The Public Works Director has reviewed this bid and, since the bid was nearly twice the amount budgeted for the work, recommends that the bid be rejected and that the scope of work be revised. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the Resolution Rejecting Bid For The Fire Station 16 Kitchen Remodel Project, Contract 09-10. C:\Documents and Settings\michelle\Local Settings\Temporary Internet File~,OLK'TAgst Bid Rejection rev.doc ~/ ~ Q,~ i RESOLUTION NO. - 09 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN REJECTING BID FOR THE FIRE STATION 16 KITCHEN REMODEL PROJECT CONTRACT N0.09-10 WHEREAS, the City of Dublin did, on September 9, 2009, publicly open, examine, and declare a sealed bid for doing the work described in the approved Plans, Specifications, and Modifications for Contract No. 09-10, Fire Station 16 Kitchen Remodel Project, which Plans, Specifications, and Modifications are hereby expressly referred to for a description of said work and for all particulars relative to the proceedings under the request for bids; and WHEREAS, one bid was received, which was significantly higher than the available funds for the project; and WHEREAS, said bid was submitted to the Public Works Director, who has recommended that the bid be rejected on the basis of insufficient funds; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Dublin does hereby, in accordance with the Municipal Code and California Public Contract Code Section 20166, reject the bid and direct Staff to revise the scope of work for the Project.
