F ANCIAL STA ENT: None.
DESCRIPTION: One of the City Council's Fiscal Year 2009-2010 High Priority
Goals and Objectives is to assist the automobile dealers on Scarlett Court by enhancing their presence.
Staff has been working closely with the automotive dealer representatives in this area to identify ways to
accomplish this task.
Based on those discussions, it was agreed that one possible recommendation is to provide better
directional signage for these automobile dealers on Dublin Boulevard and along Scarlett Court. While
most of these dealerships have exceptional freeway frontage, they lack needed visibility from Dublin
Boulevard to efficiently guide customers to this important shopping district.
Staff has worked with the dealer representatives to provide an example of the directional sign for the City
Council's consideration (Attachment 1). The design and character of the signage reflects that of the
approved Dublin Boulevard gateway and monument program approved by the City Council in 2008. As
proposed, the signs would be placed in the City's public right-of--way in the westbound and eastbound
direction of Dublin Boulevard, approximately 200-300 feet from Scarlett Drive. A third sign would be
placed in the City's public right-of--way on the south end of Scarlett Drive at Scarlett Court, directing
customers and traffic eastbound or westbound on Scarlett Court to the automotive dealers located in this
area (Attachment 2).
If the City Council provides direction to proceed with a City directional sign program, Staff will bring
back two items for the City Council's consideration. The first will be a proposed amendment to the City's

Streetscape Master Plan policies to allow the City to create directional signage for places, buildings, or
locations of regional or historical significance, provided it meets certain criteria. Currently, the
Streetscape Master Plan policies limit directional signage in the public right-of--way to those directing to
public facilities and, in certain cases, semi-public facilities. The proposed amendment would expand this
definition. The second item will be the actual (or final) City directional sign for the Scarlett Court/Drive
automobile dealers for City Council approval.
RECOMMENDATION: Provide Staff direction regarding proposed City directional signs for
automobile dealers located on Scarlett Court and Scarlett Drive.
