FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION: At the start of the Shannon Community Center Reconstruction
project a portion of the budget was set aside to include art as part of the overall design. The areas included
the children's preschool area, the south wall of the lobby and the outdoor entry seat walls and fountain.
Each area was contracted to a separate artist: the preschool area (Art: In My World and Community) to
Tricia George for $20,000, the lobby wall (Art: Tree in the Center of the World) to Colin Lambert and
Peter Adams for $35,000 and the fountain and seat wall areas (Art: And There was Evening and There
was Morning) to Margarita Soyfertis for $40,000. The artists have completed the design and installation
of the pieces and fulfilled the requirements of the contract. As part of the artists' contracts the City has an
obligation to formally accept the pieces as complete. The City has reviewed the art pieces and has
determined that the work is complete.
RECOMMENDATION: It is the recommendation of Staff that the City Council accept the
improvements under the Shannon Community Center Arts Contracts.
