San Ramon Road Trail Improvements Construction Budgets: CITY CLERK File # ^ (^Q^-,3^~ Root Barriers $36,000 Path Sealing $60,000 TOTAL: $96,000 Bid Amount for Root Barriers: $12,925 Actual Construction $12,899 This project, including one Change Order, was budgeted at $36,000 and was completed for $12,899, well below the budget amount. The path sealing portion of the project will be completed in the Spring of 2009. DESCRIPTION: The San Ramon Road Trail Improvements Project was approved as part of the Five-Year Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for Fiscal Year 2008-2009. The project is proposed to repair and construct improvements to the bicycle/pedestrian path along the west side of San Ramon Road from Alcosta Boulevard to Silvergate Drive. Construction is being undertaken in two phases. This first phase cut the roots from trees that have damaged the asphalt path and installed vertical root barriers to protect the path in the future. (0 The second phase will repair the damaged asphalt within the path, and place a seal coat over the entire path. Construction of the second phase is proposed for Spring 2009. Ten percent of project invoices is held back as retention throughout the length of the project to insure completion of the project and retain funds against potential subcontractor claims, should they arise. Upon the City Council's acceptance of project improvements, the retained amount is paid to the contractor after 35 days if there are no subcontractor claims. RECOMMENDATION: The Root Barriers project is now complete. Therefore, Staff recommends that the City Council accept the improvements under Contract No. 08-14, San Ramon Road Trail Improvements -Root Barriers, and authorize the release of retention after 35 days if there are no subcontractor claims.
