The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM, by Chair Robert Bennett. 1. Call to Order and Pledge of Allegiance Rita Szollos: Present, Commissioner Kathy Blackburn: Present, Commissioner Georgean Vonheeder-Leopold: Present, Commissioner Robert Bennett: Present, Commissioner Kit Lau: Present, Commissioner S.Tejas Peesapati: Present, Commissioner Sammy Jo Rudy: Present. Chair Bennett led the Pledge of Allegiance. + 2. Oral Communications 2.1. Public Comment Chair Bennett opened the floor for public comment. Seeing no comments for the Public, Chair Bennett closed the floor to public comments. 3. Approve the minutes of August 9, 2018 Regular Meeting of the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission. ACTION: Approved as presented. 4. Public Safety Complex Art Selection Ms. Tegan McLane, Cultural Arts and Heritage Manager, presented the specifics of the item as outlined in the Staff Report regarding selection of an artist and design for a public art piece to be placed in the future Public Safety Complex. Commissioners expressed concerns about proceeding with a recommendation considering the title of the Staff Report was incorrect. The Parks and Community Services Director, La Shawn Butler, stated that moving forward with a recommendation will not be an issue since the action recommended in the Staff Report specifies the public art piece at the future Public Safety Complex. Ms. McLane invited Gordon Huether, artist for the public art piece, to the podium. Mr. Huether thanked the Commissioners and presented his design concept and possible placement locations for the public art piece. The Commissioners provided general comments and questions related to the design concept, size of structure, durability, placement of structure, landscape design, completion timeline, and conservator's recommendation regarding purchasing spare glass panels. Chair Bennett opened the floor for Public Comment. Mr. Steve Minniear stated that he feels the proposed art piece is wonderful and recommends the design in front of the future Public Safety Complex. He also suggests purchasing replacement glass in case of potential damage caused by an earthquake. Seeing no other comments from the Public, Chair Bennett closed the floor for Public Comment. ACTION: On a motion by Cm. Vonheeder-Leopold, seconded by Cm. Rudy, and by a vote of 6-0-0, the Commission recommended that City Council approve the design proposed by artist Gordon Huether for a public art piece and that it is placed in front of the future Public Safety Complex. heritage eZ CulturalArts Commission Septem6er 13,2018 Regular Meeting Page 12 After discussing the feasibility of purchasing replacement glass, the Commission voted on a motion by Cm. Rudy, seconded by Cm. Szollos, and by a vote of 6-0- 0, to recommend that City Council explore the option of purchasing replacement glass for the proposed public art piece. 7.2. Heritage Park and Museums Annual Report, September 2017-August 2018 Ms. McLane stated she wanted to take this opportunity to recognize and express appreciation to the Dublin Historical Preservation Association for their contribution in honoring the City of Dublin's history. Ms. McLane provided the specifics of the Heritage Park and Museums Annual Report as outlined in the Staff Report. The Commissioners provided general comments and questions related to donations from Challenge Butter, Music Jams at Heritage Park, and Special Events. Chair Bennett opened the floor to public comment. Steve Minniear of the Dublin Historical Preservation Association commented on how it is important for the Commission to consider outcomes and consistent participation numbers at events and places when evaluating programs and activities. Seeing no other comments from the Public, Chair Bennett closed the floor for Public Comment. 8. Other Business Brief information only reports from the Commission and/or Staff, including committee reports and reports by the Commission related to meetings attended at City expense (AB1234). The Commissioners provided brief informational reports on events and meetings attended. Ms. McLane provided updates about programs, events, meetings and future reports. 9. Adjournment Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:35 PM.
