A Regular Meeting of the Dublin Heritage & Cultural Arts Commission was held on
Thursday, June 14, 2018, in the Civic Center Council Chamber. The meeting was
called to order at 7:00 PM, by Commissioner Robert Bennett.
1. Call to Order and Pledge of Allegiance
Commissioner Rita Szollos: Absent, Commissioner Kathy Blackburn: Present,
Commissioner Georgean Vonheeder-Leopold: Present, Commissioner Robert Bennett:
Present, Commissioner Kit Lau: Present, Commissioner S.Tejas Peesapati: Present,
Commissioner Sammy Jo Rudy: Present.
Chair Bennett led the Pledge of Allegiance.
2. Oral Communications
2.1. Public Comment
Chair Bennett opened the floor for public comment.
Vanessa Thomas of the Dublin Art Collective provided updates and information
on the following items: the Local Author Showcase; feedback from the art display
at the Dublin Youth Expo; the possible revival of the Dublin Arts Foundation; new
monthly art workshops for adults which are being held at the Frame Company,
owned by Sawsan Wolski; a request for an agenda item on Google Bullentin for
Artists; the Bothwell Arts Center issuing a Call for Art for two events; and a
Multicultural Exhibit celebrating heritage at the Bankhead Theatre on June 27.
The Commissioners thanked Ms. Thomas for her updates and information.
Seeing no other comments from the Public, Chair Bennett closed the floor to
public comments.

3.1. Approve the minutes of May 10, 2018 Regular Meeting of the Heritage and
Cultural Arts Commission.

7. New Business
7.1. Utility Box Art: Fiscal Year 2017-18 Project Report and 2018-19 Project
Proposal
Ms. McLane provided the specifics of the item as outlined in the Staff Report.
The Commission voted unanimously 6-0-0 with Cm. Szollos absent to
recommend to City Council continuing the Utility Box Art Project at the following
locations:
• Dublin Boulevard and Clark Avenue
• Dublin Boulevard and Sierra Court
• Dublin Boulevard and Dublin Court
• Dublin Boulevard and Dougherty Road
• Dublin Boulevard and Scarlett Drive
• Dublin Boulevard and DeMarcus Boulevard
• Dublin Boulevard and Iron Horse Parkway
• Dublin Boulevard and Arnold Road
• Dublin Boulevard and Park Place

The Commission discussed a number of possible themes for the 2019 Utility Box
Art Project and voted 5-1-0 with Cm. Szollos absent to recommend to City
Council the following theme: The New American Backyard, with an emphasis on
the history of travel through Dublin.
8. Other Business
Brief information only reports from Commissioners and/or Staff, including committee
reports and reports by Commissioners related to meetings attended at City expense
(AB1234).
The Commissioners provided brief informational reports on events and meetings
attended. Cm. Blackburn shared that her experience volunteering at the Heritage Park
and Museums and the Spring Fair event has been great. Cm. Rudy said the Dublin
High School Film Festival was amazing.
Ms. McLane provided program and event updates.
9. Adjournment
Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned by Chair Bennett at 8:01 PM.
