A Regular Meeting of the Dublin Heritage & Cultural Arts Commission was held on
Thursday, May 10, 2018, in the Civic Center Council Chamber. The meeting was called
to order at 7:00 PM.
1. Call to Order and Pledge of Allegiance
Commissioner Robert Bennett: Present, Commissioner Georgean Vonheeder-Leopold:
Present, Commissioner Rita Szollos: Present, Commissioner Kathy Blackburn: Absent,
Commissioner Kit Lau: Absent, Commissioner S.Tejas Peesapati: Absent,
Commissioner Sammy Jo Rudy: Present.
Chair Bennett led the Pledge of Allegiance.

2. Oral Communications
2.1. Public Comment
Chair Bennett opened the floor for public comment.
Steve Minniear, President of the Dublin Historical Preservation Association
(DHPA), commented on the state of the Dublin Pioneer Cemetery. He was
embarrassed that volunteers were relied upon to clean up the overgrowth of
weeds. He submitted a letter to the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission
asking if anything can be done.
The Commissioners commented on the need to look into this issue further.
Vanessa Thomas of the Dublin Art Collective provided an update on recent
community events and outreach efforts to the Planning Commission regarding
public art space.
The Commissioners thanked Ms. Thomas for her updates and efforts on finding
art space for public use.
Seeing no other comments from the Public, Chair Bennett closed the floor to
public comments.

3.2. Approve the minutes of April 12, 2018 Regular Meeting of the Heritage and
Cultural Arts Commission.
ACTION:
Approved as presented.

7. New Business
7.1. Winter 2018 Quarterly Report
Ms. Tegan McLane, Heritage & Cultural Arts Manager, provided the specifics of
the item as outlined on the Staff Report.

The Commissioners provided general comments and questions related to the
classes offered, city-sponsored events, sponsorship, community events and
feedback from event participants.
Chair Bennett opened the floor for Public Comment.
Mr. Minniear stated the DHPA received positive feedback from their sponsorship
of the St. Patrick's Day Festival.
Seeing no other comments from the Public, Chair Bennett closed the floor for
Public Comment.
7.2. Commission Representative to Serve on Dog Park Replacement Art
Selection Committee
Ms. McLane presented the specifics of the item as outlined in the Staff Report.
Chair Bennett opened the floor to nominations for a Commission member to
serve on the Public Art Selection Committee for a replacement public art piece
for the Dougherty Hills Dog Park.
ACTION:
On a motion by Cm. Bennett, seconded by Cm. Szollos, and by a vote of 4-0-0,
the Commission selected Cm. Vonheeder-Leopold as the representative and
Cm. Szollos as the alternate to serve on the Public Art Selection Committee for a
replacement art piece for the Dougherty Hills Dog Park.
8. Other Business
Brief information only reports from Commissioners and/or Staff, including committee
reports and reports by Commissioners related to meetings attended at City expense
(AB1234).
Ms. McLane provided program and event updates.
The Commissioners provided brief informational reports on events and meetings
attended.
9. Adjournment
Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned by Chair Bennett at 7:52 PM.
