HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-15-2016 Approved P&CSC Minutes PARKS AND COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION OF Dr)p8 REGULAR MEETING 2 Minutes CITY OF DUBLIN August 15, 2016 A regular meeting of the Dublin Parks and Community Services Commission was held on Monday, August 15, 2016 in the City Council Chamber of the Dublin Civic Center. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Chair Ballesteros. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE The pledge of allegiance to the flag was recited by the Commission, Staff, and those present. ROLL CALL Commissioners (Cm.) Present: Ballesteros, Bedi, Giannini, Thalblum, Totaro, and Tucker Commissioners Absent: None ORAL COMMUNICATIONS 3.1 Brief Informational Only Reports From the Senior Center and Youth Advisory Committees Senior Center Advisory Committee Senior Center Advisory Committee Member Ramona Krausnick reported on the August 4, 2016 Senior Center Advisory Committee meeting. Youth Advisory Committee Cm. Bedi reported that the July 2016 Youth Advisory Committee meeting had been cancelled and mentioned the agenda items scheduled for the August 24, 2016 Youth Advisory Committee meeting. 3.2 Public Comments—None. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 4.1 Regular Meeting July 18, 2016 On a motion by Cm. Giannini, seconded by Cm. Tucker, and by a vote of 6-0-0, the Commission took the following action: ACTION Approved minutes of the July 18, 2016 Regular Commission Meeting as presented. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS— None. PUBLIC HEARING—None. UNFINISHED BUSINESS—None. P&CSC Minutes—August 15, 2016—Page 2 of 3 NEW BUSINESS 8.1 Sub Area 3 Neighborhood Square Preferred Conceptual Design Ms. Rosemary Alex, Parks and Facilities Development Coordinator, presented the specifics of the items as outlined in the Staff Report, and introduced project consultant, Ms. Karen Krolewski, with PGA Design Landscape Architects, who presented additional details about the item. Chair Ballesteros opened the floor for Public Comment. Seeing none, Chair Ballesteros closed Public Comment. ACTION By a vote of 6-0-0, the Commission unanimously voted to recommend City Council approval of the preferred conceptual park design with Option B selected for the play elements geared for two to five year olds. 8.2 Dublin Crossing Park Master Plan Ms. Rosemary Alex, Parks and Facilities Development Coordinator, presented the specifics of the items as outlined in the Staff Report, and introduced project consultant, Mr. Justin Winters, with SWA Group, who presented additional details about the item. The Commission unanimously commented in support of the project, but expressed concern about the option for placement of the Valley Children's Museum in the park, especially at the Dublin Boulevard frontage. Commissioners questioned whether the downtown area would be a more suitable location for the museum. Chair Ballesteros opened the floor for Public Comment. Ms. Timea Iharosi, Dublin resident, expressed concern about the placement option of a building for the Valley Children's Museum. Seeing no further comment, Chair Ballesteros closed Public Comment. ACTION On a motion by Cm.Totaro, seconded by Cm.Thalblum, and by a vote of 6-0-0, the Commission unanimously voted to recommend City Council approval of the Dublin Crossing Park Master Plan with a modification to consider alternate locations outside of Dublin Crossing Park for a building for the Valley Children's Museum. OTHER BUSINESS The Commissioners provided brief informational reports on events and meetings attended over the past month. Mr. James Rodems, Parks and Community Services Director, and Ms. Micki Cronin, Assistant Parks and Community Services Director, provided program, project, and event updates.
