HomeMy WebLinkAbout7.1 Teen Summer Activities and Programs CITY OF DUBLIN YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE AGENDA STATEMENT MEETING DATE: April 23, 1998 SUBJECT: Teen Summer Activities and Programs EXHIBITS ATTACHED: None RECOMMENDATION: Receive Report and Provide Input FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: One objective of the Youth Advisory Committee was to be included in the planning process of teen activities and programs. Planning for Summer Teen Activities is underway. The following is a proposal for new Summer Teen Activities which includes Teen Pool Nights once a month, Midnight Basketball from 9:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. at Dublin High School and a Dance series at Shannon Center Community Center the third Friday of every month. Although funds are not presently included in the 97/98 budget, staff hopes to have funds approved in the 98/99 budget. The following activities were offered last year and are being conducted again this year. All Sports Day Camp This camp is for youth entering grades 3rd- 8th. Instruction and game play will be provided in various sports i.e. Basketball, Hockey, Flag Football, Soccer and more! Swim days will be on Wednesdays and an excursion will take place on one Thursday of each session.Fee covers all activities and includes a program T-shirt.Each camp is two weeks long, from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mondays - Friday the first week and Monday - Thursday the second week. Camps are held at Dublin High School except on excursion days. Cost is $64.00 Residents($74.00 Non-residents). YES! Youth Experience in Summer Teens entering 7th through 10 grade who have completed the Leadership with Youth class or equivalent can participate in this junior leader program. Volunteers will assist day camp leaders in conducting such activities as sports, games arts and crafts. JAWS,Junior Aquatic Water Safety If you are a teen between the ages of 12 and 15 who enjoys being around the pool and would like to gain valuable work experience,then the Junior Aquatic Water Safety program could be for you! Recommendation Staff recommends that the Committee review the Teen Summer Activities listed above and provide input. COPIES TO: ITEM NO. 7.1 G:\YAC\Statem-1\423sum.doc
