SUBJECT: Recruitment and Selection of Next Youth Advisory Committee

FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION: As discussed in the May 14, 1998 meeting of the Youth Advisory
Committee recruitment has begun for appointment of the next Y.A.C. Appointments for the Committee
will be for one year and current members who would like to re-apply are encouraged to do so.
Appointments for the next Youth Advisory Committee will be made at the City Council meeting in
August 1998. The following is a timeline for application and selection of the 98/99 Youth Advisory
Committee:
May 4th Applications Available
June 19th Application Deadline
July 6th-7th Parks and Community Services Commission Sub-Committee Interviews
July 20th Parks and Community Services Commission Recommendation
August 18th Mayor Appointment at City Council Meeting
The next appointment will be from September 1998 to August 1999. The format for selection of the
Youth Advisory Committee includes review of applications by a sub-committee of the Parks and
Community Services Commission who will make recommendations to the full Commission. The
Commission will then make recommendations to the Mayor who conveys his selections for the Youth
Advisory Committee to the City Council where formal appointments are made.

Recommendation
Staff recommends that the Committee:
1) Make arrangements to re-apply for the next Y.A.C.
2) Discuss ways to get more involvement from St. Raymond's 6th - 8th graders, Valley and Valley
Christian High Schools.
3) Discuss what standing sub-committees could be established for those not selected for Y.A.C.
