HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-14-1988 Approved PCSC Minutes CITY OF DUBLIN PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING DATE: June 14 , 1988 The Park and Recreation Commission decided at their May 31 , 1988 meeting to schedule a a tour of facilities which would include, Shannon Park, Dolan Park, Mape Park, Dublin Sports Grounds , Alamo Creek Park, Stagecoach Park and the Senior Center. , The tour began at 5 :30p.m. from the Shannon Center parking lot. Present: Commissioners Downey, Hernandez and Donnell Absent: Commissioners Schmitt and Hudak Staff: Diane Lowart, Char Young Shannon Park Commissioner Downey asked if more picnic tables will be included in the park renovation? Diane replied, yes. Dolan Park Diane stated Phase I is in its 90 day maintenance period. Phase II will include improvements to the play area. The flat areas on the hill will be for lighted basketball and volleyball courts and will include a covered picnic area. There will be no off-street parking or bathroom facility. Two water fountains will be installed, one in the lower area and another in the upper area. The entrances to the park are located on Ignacio and Padre. The Commissioners walked through the lower completed park area and the upper area under construction. Mape Park Diane pointed out that the existing picnic area will be the same. The tot and children' s play area will be located in the same area, but with new play structures. Exercise stations and lighting will be installed along the creek bank. There will be no bathroom but a portable toilet will be installed. It was noted that there were several broken bottles on the paved area of the entrance. Dublin Sports Grounds The little league fields are having draining problems. Parking will be available in the Civic Center parking lot during the evenings only. Alamo Creek Park The park will have off-street parking, open lawn space, play and picnic area. The fence will be 4 foot on one side and 6 foot on the other. A wooden pedestrian bridge will be built to get from one side of the park to the other. Minutes - June 14 , 1988 - Page Two Dougherty Hills Park Diane pointed out that there will be a parking area, picnic tables and a small play area. Stagecoach Park It was noted that the bark on one of the trees in the raised planters was badly marred. Valley Community Swim Center Deck needs replacing. Pool covers do not work well . Solar panels are not efficient. Kolb Park One of the digger toys in the childrens play area was vandalized. Vandalism seems to be a problem at this park. Perhaps a Neighborhood Watch program is needed. Senior Center The Commission ended their tour at the Senior Center where they enjoyed sandwiches , salad and sodas . The Commissioners indicated that they were very pleased with the renovation of the Senior Center. Approval of Minutes IT WAS MOVED BY COMMISSIONER DONNELL AND SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER HERNANDEZ TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF MAY 31 , 1988 AS SUBMITTED. (UNANIMOUS ) Staff Reports Diane reported that San Ramon and Livermore will have fireworks for the 4th of July. The Valley Community Swim Center will be open for recreational swimming only. The Summer Playgrounds begins next week at four sites including Nielsen, Murray, Wells and Arroyo Vista. The Summer Youth Employment Program has already started. Programs at the Senior Center began on Monday. Diane stated that she will begin working on the Park Rules and Regulations . The Commission will be asked for their input in regards to the opening and closing of the parks, use of alcohol , reservation procedures, etc. Other Business Commissioner Donnell asked who should be called in regards to park maintenance. Diane stated that the Recreation office and Public Works Department plan to work closely together and both will receive calls regarding any park maintenance problems. Minutes - June 14, 1988 Page Three Commissioner Downey stated that the Commission should do another tour when all the facilities are completed.
