HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-06-1983 Approved PCSC Minutes CITY OF DUBLIN PARKS & RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING July 6 , 1983 MINUTES The meeting was called to order at 7 :42 p.m. Those Committee Members present included Joan Allen, May Hernandez, Janet Lockhart , James Kohnen, Norb Hudek, Elizabeth Schmitt , George Zika and Georgean Vonheeder. Also present was City Manager Ambrose . The minutes of the meeting of June 22 , 1983 were approved as written. The Committee discussed at some length the organization and content of the report regarding parks & recreation needs in the City of Dublin to the City Council. It was agreed by the Committee Members present that the format of the report should be as follows : 1 . Objective of the Committee 2. Purpose of the Committee 3. Methodology for Approaching the Committee ' s Assignment This would include discussion regarding the questionaire, inventory of facilities , interviews with sports groups and senior groups , public forum, etc . 4. A discussion of the needs that were identified The .Committee determined that it was appropriate to break these needs down by age group in the following categories : preschool , elementary school , teen, adult and then a category for all age groups . The Committee identified the following needs : Age Group Need • Preschool More neighborhood parks with children' s play equipment . Elementary School More neighborhood parks with children' s play equipment ; afterschool playground; summerschooll playgrounds ; day camp Teen. Gathering place Adult Gathering place for educational , social , class activi- ties and meetings ; adult athletic facilities including par course , tennis courts with lights , horseshoe pits , etc . All Ages Need annual community celebration; improved coordination of recreation programs and facility use; information clearinghouse for recreation programs and facility use ; picnic facilities ; park restroom facilities ; better ;utilization, maintenance and improve existing recreation facilities ; reduction of field user fees • • U The Committee also discussed the various alternatives to be looked at with respect to each of these needs . These alternatives identified were as follows : Preschool Facilities • 1 . Improve Kolb, Cronin, Mape and Shannon Parks with equipment for children 2 . Improve and maintain Kolb Park 3. Arrange with School District for improved accessibility to kindergarten play equipment Elementary School 1 . Same as above 2 . Develop afterschool playground which would either be run by the City with arrangement made for the use of .school facilities with the school or contract with outside agency and make school facility available Teen 1 . Locate a gathering place . Potential sites. could include Shannon. Community Center; school facilities ; lease of a private building Adult 1 . Location of gathering place. Potential sites could include Shannon Community Center, school facilities ; Camp Parks Officer' s Club The Committee agreed that it would meet to complete discussion of - the report on Wednesday, July 13 , 1983 .
