FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION: One responsibility of the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission is
to review proposed art projects within the city. In order to keep the Commission informed about pending
projects, Staff will provide periodic updates on the projects.
ART IN THE PARKS
Emerald Glen Park
Phase II of the park is currently underway and scheduled for completion in Spring 2004, this phase
includes a water feature on the corner of Tassajara Road and Central Parkway including an arbor structure,
entry plaza, lighting, landscaping, seating, picnic tables and Ned Kahn's water sculpture. Mr. Kahn is
currently working on his project at his studio and will be ready for installation this Spring.
Dolan Park
The Artist selection committee met September 25th and narrowed the selection between two finalists. The
committee will be meeting again to select a finalist for the project. Once the selection is made the final
piece will come to the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission and the Parks and Community Services
Commission prior to final approval by the City Council. Once approved by City Council, it will take
approximately six months to complete the project.
Bray Commons
Currently under construction, this 4.8-acre neighborhood park will serve Eastern Dublin residents and is
• located on Finnan Way, Maguire Way and Keegan Street. The anticipated completion date when the park
will be open to the public is June 2004. The Dublin Fine Arts Foundation along with representatives from
the commissions will serve on a selection committee for an art piece for the park. This is currently on
hold due to the fact that there are no residents as of yet to represent the neighborhood.
PRIVATE DEVELOPMENT PUBLIC ARTI
Safeway:
Staff and Safeway personnel met with the artist Dan Dykes on August 1St to review the near final clock
tower to be placed on the corner of Dublin Boulevard and Amador Plaza Road. Safeway was very pleased
and the clock tower or"Dublin Time"is slated for installation at the end of October.

CITY SPONSORED PUBLIC ART PROJECTS
Historic Crossroads Mural
The artist team, John Wehrle, John Pugh and Daniel Galvez will be completing the painting of the
underpass mural at Amador Valley Boulevard by the middle of October. The Dublin Boulevard underpass
was completed in August. The final step to complete the project will be to install lighting at both
underpasses and to stain the adjacent sidewalks to match the mural background color. The lighting will be
installed in October and the sidewalks stained by November.
Bus Shelter Project—"Rolling Hills"
City Council approved the fabrication contract for the Bus Shelters in July with artist Dan Dykes. Mr.
Dykes is currently working with Monterey Mechanical to fabricate the three shelters for Dublin Boulevard
simultaneously. Staff will make a site visit at the end of October and upon approval, the shelters will be
installed at the end of November. Over the next three years, there are plans to replace another six shelters
in the downtown area with the artist inspired shelters.
Dublin Senior Center
The plans are nearly complete for the new Dublin Senior Center. Over the past nine months the City has
been working with the community's seniors and the Dahlin Group Architects to design the new Senior
Center. The new 15,500 square foot building will be located on the site of the old Dublin Library on
Amador Valley Boulevard. Artwork by Rowland Cheney will be included in the new Dublin Senior
Center. "Wisdom through the Ages", a bronze sculpture featuring animals that depict wisdom, a crane, an
owl and wild horses, will grace the courtyard of the senior center. Installation is scheduled for June Of
2004.
!PUBLIC ART MASTER PLAN
The Public Art Master Plan Task Force had their first meeting.September 4th. The meeting was quite
productive and the next one is the 16th of October. The Draft Plan will be brought before the Heritage
and Cultural Arts Commission at the meeting in November for recommendations and again to the
Commission in December for final approval prior to City Council.
It is the recommendation of Staff that the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission receive the report.
