MIETEE MEETING M s x;P Y MINUTES OFednesda .Tama 2720I1 CALL TO ORDER The January 27, 2010 meeting Of the Youth Advisory Committee was called to order at'7:00 p.m. at the Dublin Civic Center Regional Meeting Room, by Parks and Community Services Commission Liaison Arcuri. PLEDGE OFALLEGL9NCE Pledge of Allegiance was led by Liaison Arcuri: • ROLL CALL Committee Members (CM) Present: Marcos Castro, Gabriela Vasquez, Vivian Sung, Tommy Cunnie, Asian Brown, Shirley Chen, Alka Pande, Alex Rogers, Taylor King, Jasmine Bafaiz, Chris Hair ` Committee Members Absent: Van Le, Justin Minor, Krista Schaarschmidt, Cam Tran Liaison Present: Annie Arcuri, Parks and Community Services Commission Liaison Representative Adult.Representative: Morgan King Jr. Staff Present: Frank Luna, Angela Gamez ORAL COMMUNICATIONS—None MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING-December 9, 2009 ON A MOTION BY CM BROWN SECONDED BY CM CUNNIE AND BY UNANIMOUS VOTE, THE COMMITTEE VOTED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF DECEMBER 9, 2009 AS PRESENTED. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS-None UNFINISHED BUSINESS—None - NEW BUSINESS Youth Fee Assistance Fundraising, Teen Website and Youth Tutoring Subcommittee Reports Staff Member Luna presented a sponsorship letter for the Committee's review. The letter was written by Committee Member Hair regarding the Youth Fee Assistance Fundraiser. The letter will be used for requesting donations from local businesses for the Youth Fee Assistance Program. Staff Member Gamez updated the Committee regarding.money collected_from the tutoring program being deposited into the account for the Youth Fee Assistance Program. Over $300 has been collected to date for the program. Staff Member Luna congratulated Committee Members on their hard work fundraising for the Youth Fee Assistance program. Staff Member Gamez mentioned that the Youth Advisory Committee will be helping with the Fun Run during the St. Patrick's Day weekend on Sunday, March 14t. The Committee Members will meet around 6:30 am and volunteer until noon. The Commission will receive a stipend for assisting at the Run, which Will be donated to the Youth Fee Assistance Program. Committee ' L t Liaison Arcuri suggested a "Penny War Contest" at Dublin High School to help raise money for the Youth Fee Assistance Program. Committee Member Brown volunteered to look into coordinating this event. CM Brown will bring this idea to the Dublin High Leadership Class. Fall 2009 Teen Quarterly Report Staff Member Luna presented the Fall 2009 Teen Quarterly Report to.the committee. The report included the different teen events offered during the fall quarter. Statistics for teen events, Student Union program and the Teen Website were provided to Committee Members to review. Members reviewed the report with no further discussion. OTHER BUSINESS Student Liaison Arcuri mentioned an idea of having an after school "hang out" on the Dublin High School campus for students to do homework and have a safe place to relax. Some ideas that were presented included having different games, a pool table, and computers for the students. Committee Member Vasquez presented information to the Committee regarding City sponsored teen events. As a member of the Dublin High School Freshman Leadership Class, she surveyed students regarding teen events. CM Vasquez stated that many students didn't have much information regarding teen events. The students that attended said they had fun. The events students would like to see offered include a high school dance and an after school "hang out" location at Dublin High School.
