PLEDGE OFALLEGL4NCE Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chairperson Vasquez. ROLL CALL Committee Members (CM) Present: Rebecca DeGuzman, Cassidy Hearne,-Jeanina Ng, Kush Rastogi, Grace Li, Visesha Kakarla, Sophia Bafaiz, Akshay Aitha, Vivian Sung, Marcos Castro, Gabriela Vasquez, Gabrielle Basile, Shilpa Stanley, Vinootna Kakarla, Brianna Barnes, Dilpreet Anand. Committee Members Absent: Gabrielle Basile, Ashley Wolfe Liaisons Present: Jasmine Bafaiz, Parks and Community Services Commission Liaison Staff Present: Angela Gamez, Frank Luna, Officer Ranvir Sanghera ORAL COMMUNICATIONS-None MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING—September 28, 2011 ON A MOTION BY CM CASTRO SECONDED BY CM SUNG AND BY A UNIANIMOUS VOTE OF 13-0-0, THE COMMITTEE VOTED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 28, 2011 AS PRESENTED. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS—None UNFINISHED BUSINESS—None NEW BUSINESS Summer 2011 Teen Quarterly Report Staff Member Luna presented the Summer 2011 Teen Quarterly Report to the Advisory Committee as outlined in the agenda statement. Staff Member Luna stated the only teen program implemented in the summer was the Junior Leader program. The Junior Leader Program provides teens valuable job skills while volunteering at various Parks and Community Services Department summer camps. The Junior Leaders assisted Recreation Leaders with conducting camp programs at Nature Day Camp, Fun in the Sun, Tenderfoot Day Camp and Sports Camps. During the summer, 27 Junior Leaders volunteered a total of 1,050 hours. Youth Fee Assistance Fundraising, Teen Special Events, and Texting and Driving Educational Campaign Subcommittee Reports CM Vasquez provided a report for the Texting and Driving Educational Campaign Subcommittee. CM Vasquez stated that the Texting and Driving Public Service Announcement (PSA) had been edited and would be displayed on Dublin High School's video bulletin within the next month. Staff Member Gamez suggested that subcommittee members look into promoting a Texting and Driving Awareness month. CM Vasquez said she would present this,idea to subcommittee members. Staff Member Gamez initiated a conversation regarding possible fundraising events and asked Committee Members for ideas. Gamez stated that "Rockin Jump" could do a fundraiser with the Advisory Committee. "Rockin Jump" is a business that offers participants the opportunity to have fun jumping on trampolines and other jumping apparatus. A "Rockin Jump" fundraiser could be a fun event for high school and middle school students. CM Rastogi suggested a coffee shop fundraiser. Staff Member Gamez will contact Starbucks to inquire about sponsoring a fundraiser. • CM Vasquez brought up the idea of having a Wells versus Fallon Middle School "Penny War". CM Vasquez will do more research on this idea and provide a report at the next meeting. CM Castro volunteered to lead the Youth Fee Assistance Fundraising Subcommittee. Staff Member Gamez stated that the Car Show Subcommittee will be meeting soon and subcommittee members will be contacted regarding specific meeting dates. OTHER BUSINESS CM Vasquez brought up an idea of coordinating an event where local youth could go to the Camp Parks facilities and explore the area, or to have a Camp Parks youth only event. CM Anand suggested having a"sharks and minnows" type game as part of the event. Staff Member Luna will look into the logistics of planning an event on the Camp Parks grounds and provide a report at next meeting. - • Parks and Community Services Commission Liaison Bafaiz reported that the Dublin High School UNICEF club would like to do a fundraiser collaboratively with the Youth Advisory Committee and will report back at the next Advisory Committee meeting.
