SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE
MINUTES OF FEBR UARY 1,''2007
Call to Order
Vice-Chairperson Al Edge called the meeting to order at 9:10 a.m.
Roll Call:
Committee Members (CM) Present: Al Edge, Jim McCuen, Beth Wood, Martin Baron and Diane
Bonetti.
Committee Members Absent: None
Parks and Community Services Commission Liaison Present: Rich Guarienti
Staff Present: Anna Hudson, Recreation Coordinator,Diane Guenther, Office Assistant
Oral Communications
Paul Silvas asked if tax preparation could be made available at the Senior Center. Hudson will follow up
with AARP to determine if they will be offering assistance at the Library again this year.
Approval of the Minutes
THE COMMITTEE APPROVED THE MINUTES• OF THE JANUARY 11, 2007 MEETING.
MOTION BY CM BETH WOOD, SECONDED BY CM AL EDGE WITH THREE ABSENTIONS.

New Business
Election of Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson
Hudson suggested the Committee delay their election until March to allow time for the Committee
'Members to become acquainted due to the recent appointments of two new Committee Members. The
Committee concurred.
THE COMMITTEE UNINIOUSLY APPROVED DEFERRING THE ELECTIONS UNTIL THE
MARCH MEETING. MOTION BY CM BARON, SECONDED BY- CM MCCUEN AND
UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED.
Step Out For Senior Centers Event
Hudson provided the Committee with an overview of the event and reviewed comments that were
received from the Committee for last year's event. •
The Committee discussed the possible goals for this year's event including but not limited to
incorporating an acknowledgement of the armed forces; emergency preparedness; shortening the length of
the event; and providing a healthier breakfast. It was pointed out that families came last year and it was
felt that this was good and to address current seniors and those that will be future participants.
CM Edge recommended that City services have a booth to provide seniors with information about what
services are available through the City.
CM Wood recommended the inclusion of the C.A.R.D. program.

CM Baron suggested holding the event over several days instead of one-day. Hudson discussed having
one event on Saturday and then scheduling follow-up events during the remainder of the month.
CM Wood also suggested distributing the event over several days.
The Committee discussed the vision for the event and what the "hook" for the event might be. There was
discussion how technology(i.e. the website or pod casts) might be used to include more participants.
Commissioner Guarienti expressed that it is critical to define the target audience to achieve success.
CM Wood asked what the budget is for the event. Hudson stated it is approximately $1,500. The
Committee discussed ways to determine how to measure the success of the event. They discussed the
possibility of tabulating the number of attendees but also determining the number of new people who
attend.
Suggestions for marketing included flyer distribution, a "bring a friend" incentive, a redemption game,
advertising through other Senior Centers, bringing up the event at every Senior Center activity and having
a screen invitation at the Regal Cinema.
CM WOOD AND CM BONETTI VOLUNTEERS TO SERVE ON THE SUB-COMMITTEE FOR
THE STEP OUT EVENT.
Demonstration of Online Registration System
McCreary provided the Committee with a demonstration of the www.DublinRecGuide.com website,
which is used to advertise programs and provide convenient online registration for customers. Following
the demonstration, he shared that currently 60% of registration for Department programs is done online.
Additionally, he pointed out that it is interesting at how late at night online shoppers are using the system.
He also explained the various security measures in place to protect personal customer information.
CM Baron asked if the City is planning a citywide "wi-fi" system. McCreary stated there was currently
no plan for a citywide system, but that Staff was investigating the feasibility of offering it at the Senior
Center when the City upgrades the Computer Lab.
Other Business
CM Wood asked if the Senior Center Goals and Objectives were approved. Hudson explained there will
be a public meeting February 10, 2007 of the Commissions and the City Council to review the proposed
goals and objectives.
CM Wood requested the concept of a holiday event be included on the next agenda.
