HomeMy WebLinkAbout4.2 Volunteer Recognition Event Date STAFF REPORT CITY CLERK File #610-50 CITY COUNCIL DATE:November 3, 2015 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers FROM: Christopher Foss, City Manager SUBJECT: Consideration of Date of Volunteer Recognition Event and Appointments to Citizens/Organization of the Year Ad-Hoc Committee Prepared by Shari Jackman, Management Analyst I EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Each year, the City of Dublin recognizes a citizen, young citizen, and organization of the year at its Volunteer Recognition Event. As part of the process, an Ad-Hoc Committee, comprised of two Dublin City Councilmembers, is needed to perform duties including arranging for impartial judging and selection of winners. The City Council will consider the Mayor’s appointment of two City Councilmembers to the Ad-Hoc Committee, as well as a proposed date for the Recognition Event. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council accept the Mayor’s appointments of City Councilmembers Biddle and Wehrenberg to the Citizens/Organization of the Year Ad-Hoc Committee, and confirm the date of Wednesday, February 17, 2016, as the date of the event. Submitted By Reviewed By Economic Development Director/ Assistant City Manager Public Information Officer DESCRIPTION: In February of each year, the City of Dublin recognizes a citizen and young citizen who have made a significant contribution toward enhancing the quality of life for residents of Dublin during the past year. The City also recognizes a non-profit organization that has provided services which have substantially benefited residents of Dublin. The Citizens and Organization of the Year winners will be announced at the Volunteer Recognition Event. As part of the Citizens/Organization of the Year process, an Ad-Hoc Committee, comprised of two City ITEM NO. 4.2 Page 1 of 2 Councilmembers, is needed to arrange for impartial judging of nominees and selection of winners. Last year, Mayor Haubert and Councilmember Hart served on the Committee. This year, Mayor Haubert is recommending that Councilmembers Biddle and Wehrenberg serve on the Committee. Additionally, at the City Council meeting held on October 21, 2014, Council agreed to a new recurring date for the annual event, which is the Wednesday after the second Council meeting in February. This means that the next Volunteer Recognition event will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2016. NOTICING REQUIREMENTS/PUBLIC OUTREACH: Not applicable. ATTACHMENTS: None. Page 2 of 2
