Flu Y nc $ G 9 CALL TO ORDER The April 23, 2014 meeting of the Youth Advisory Committee was called to order at 7:06 PM, at the Dublin Senior Center, by Vice Chairperson Angie Wang. PLEDGE OFALLEGIANCE Pledge of Allegiance was led by Vice Chairperson Angie Wang. ROLL CALL Committee Members (CM)Present: Sruthi Mukkamala, James Wang,Neil Bedi,Nicki Butler,Angie Wang,Ben Sher, Jessie Sher, Shilp Kothari, Brooke Brunckhorst Committee Members Absent: Jenny Dyer, Audrey Nunez, Rebecca DeGuzman, Alicia Tran, Kush Rastogi, Kayla Frierson,Alexandra Padnos Liaison Present: Vivian Sung,Parks and Community Services Commission Liaison Staff Present: Frank Luna, Henry Siu, Sergeant Dave Snider-Dublin Police Adult Member: Ashley Wolfe ORAL COMMUNICATIONS— Staff provided information on the California Youth Energy Services program. It is a program of the Rising Sun Energy Center which is a non-profit organization providing free energy conservation services to communities throughout the Bay Area. The program is a youth and adult summer employment and training program open to those aged 15 -22 years . Staff provided the Youth Advisory Committee Members with information on the application process. CMs Bedi and Mukkamala, representing Fallon Middle School, provided information on the "Mayor's GATE Challenge"- Digital Citizenship program. The program focuses on the "pros and cons" of the usage of technology. CM Bedi stated that there will be a presentation at Fallon Middle School during "Spoken Word Night"on May 2, 2014 regarding this topic. MINUTES OF THE REGUALAR MEETING-March 26, 2014 ON A MOTION BY CM JAMES WANG, AND SECONDED BY CM MUKKAMALA AND BY A VOTE OF 5-0-4, THE YOUTH ADVISORY COM UTTEE VOTED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF MARCH 26,2014 AS PRESENTED. CM'S BRUNCHHORST,JESSE SHER,BEN SHER, AND KOTHARI ABSTAINED DUE TO HER ABSENCE AT THE MARCH 26, 2014 MEETING. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS-None UNFINISHED BUSINESS—None NEW B USINESS Youth Advisory Committee and Student Representative to the Parks and Community Services Commission Applications for the 2014-2015 Term Staff provided information on the application process for the 2014-2015 Youth Advisory Committee and Student Representative to the Parks and Community Services Commission. Staff reminded the Youth Advisory Committee Members that the deadline to apply is April 30, 2014 by 5:00 PM. Staff provided applications for Committee Members. Youth Advisory Committee 2013-2014 Annual Report Staff provided information to Youth Advisory Committee Members regarding the annual report on the accomplishments of the Youth Advisory Committee to the Parks and Community Services Commission and City Council. Chairperson Rastogi and Vice-Chairperson Angie Wang were scheduled to present the power point presentation to the Committee for their review. Chairperson Rastogi was absent from the meeting so the preview did not occur. Even though the power point was previewed, the Youth Advisory Committee Members present are confident that CM's Rastogi and Wang will do an outstanding job presenting the annual report to Parks and Community Services Commission and City Council in May and June. OTHER B USINES,S Mary Ayers representing the Dublin Library provided information on the movie "Girl Rising." "Girl Rising" is a documentary revealing nine girls' courageous perseverance through obstacles including educational and gender inequality, and human trafficking. There will be a free screening of the movie on May 21, 2014 at 7:00 PM. Staff stated that the Dublin Community Car Show will be held Saturday May 3, 2014, at the Dublin Heritage Park and Museum at 10:00 AM. Staffencouraged all Youth Advisory Committee Members to attend. Staff provided an overview of"Eggstravaganza" event which was held April 19, 2014, at Emerald Glen Park. Staff Member Siu stated that over 500 children participated in the event. There were jump houses, arts and crafts, petting zoo and pictures with Peter Rabbit. Staff provided an overview of the Youth Benefit Concert which took place on April 13, 2014, at the Shannon Community Center. Seven youth performers provided a wonderful concert. Over 50 were in attendance. Proceeds from the concert benefrtted the Dublin Youth Fee Assistance program. CM Brunckhorst stated that a "Battle of the Bands" event is scheduled to be held at Dublin High School on May 23,2014. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Dublin High School music program.
