EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City Council will receive a presentation from retail consultant Michael Berne, who will
discuss the different types of retail development occurring nationwide and how these trends
impact regional and local retail development.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:

RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council receive the presentation.

DESCRIPTION:
Retail development is an important factor in creating vibrant, dynamic commercial areas. In
order to ensure that the City of Dublin is poised to capture high quality commercial development,
Staff seeks to gather information and analysis from leaders in the retail development profession.
Michael Berne, a principal with MJB Consulting, provides retail development analysis and
assistance to developers and municipalities throughout the country. Mr. Berne is presenting a
Retail 101 presentation to the City Council this evening. Mr. Berne presented a similar
workshop to the City's recently-formed Commercial Development Task Force to help provide
context to their discussion and deliberations. The presentation will cover a description of
emerging retail trends for development, site selection criteria, and market demographics.
